Leeland Eisenberg, a man with a previous history of mental illness and criminal activities, is suspected to have created a hostage situation at Hillary Clinton's Rochester, New Hampshire campaign office.
Eisenberg, confirmed by the police to be the hostage taker, is known by the community and police officers to be mentally unstable. He has previously requested hospitalization for his mental illness. A relative has also suggested that he may have been having marital problems.
Police have also reported that he has shown a previous disdain for law enforcement, calling it too restrictive.
The ironic thing is that his actions today may cause even more restrictions, especially when it comes to campaign headquarters.
Eisenberg allegedly entered the building with a bomb strapped to his chest, demanding to speak with Hillary Clinton. It has recently been revelaed that the supposed bomb was actually road flares taped to his chest.
Initially, Leeland allowed a woman and her child to leave the building, who immediately notified the police about the situation. He has released a total of three additional hostages.
There have been reports that Leeland may have been having mental issues today, and may also be intoxicated, according to a report by one of his children. There is also a
possibilty that he has previously been charged with two counts of stalking.
The Clinton campaign released the following
statement:
"There is an ongoing situation in our Rochester, NH office. We are in close contact with state and local authorities and are acting at their direction. We will release additional details as appropriate."
Eisenberg has exited the building wearing a white dress shirt, black pants, and a black tie. He removed duct tape from around his waist and placed the alleged bomb on the ground. He was then asked to lay face down on the ground, to which he complied, and was subsequently arrested by officers on the scene.
