My take on American politics is that there are two main parties that are extremely polarized. The Republicans are Pro Gun; a key policy that I believe keeps a lot of Americans voting for them no matter what! I believe they fear the Democrats Gun grabbing ways. They also cater to the Neo-Conservative religious people, and tend to be anti- abortion. The Democrats seem to want to dabble with socialism and Government policies like Nationalized Health Care, Gun Control, and are Pro Choice etc.
They both have other policies but the polarizing policies are the important ones to consider. One other important policy, possibly common to both Parties, (we’ll have to wait and see what the Democrats do with this), is the Big brother spying on Americans since 9/11. This bad policy is being implemented in other Western Countries as a result of the Republicans stance. It’s drastically changing our way of life, as well as our expected privacy. Who knows how far it will go in the future!

The result of these polarizing policies is that million’s of people cling to one or the other of these two parties to protect their particular want. Americans end up having to endure an endless cycle of representation by one party or the other, with all their baggage, Corporate support, Lobbyist support etc. These Parties cater to Lobbyists and Corporations with little regard to wants of the People who put them in power.

There is another large group of Americans who if properly motivated could change American Politics for the better. This third group is comprised of millions of Americans who are fed up with both Parties and don’t vote! This is also a key ingredient to the Third Party option. The Republicans and Democrats rely on the "Divide and Conquer" strategy using the above mentioned mainstay policies. They know that millions of Americans will vote for them no matter what! They just have to sway enough People who have no particular affiliation. This leads me to my theory of how a viable Third Party could and should be created.

First this Party would have its own Key guaranteed Policies. The first one would be the "Right to Bear Arms no matter what! The Second one would be a Pro-Choice Stance. Throw in a pro Gay Marriage and National Health care Stance for good measure. Another key policy would be to outlaw Foreign Lobbyists, or Lobbyists who act on their behalf! You would market this by telling the different groups that the groups who they might not agree with it are protecting their key Wants. This would drain the Republicans of the Gun Lobby who are forced to endure the Religious Right to protect their key Want. It would drain the Democrats of the Gay vote, as well as Women if they know that their right to choose will be protected. Most importantly it would give the millions of fed up non-voters a moderate, compromising Party to vote for.

Instead of constantly worrying about the protection of their particular key Freedom, all of these large voting groups would have comfort in knowing if they vote for this party they can sleep good at night. It might bring America closer together over time, once these groups, who may not like each other, realize that they are protecting each others particular Wants. These Key wants wouldn’t be an election platform; they would be enshrined as Party Doctrine. You could argue this will never fly, but it already does! I don’t think the Gun Lobbies are particularly fond of the Neo-Cons. Its there only option. I don’t think Gays and Lesbians are particularly fond of the Democrats. It’s the lesser of two evils. This new Party would basically be cloning the "Divide and Conquer" strategy of the two main Parties to include larger Groups some of whom don’t get much in return for their present affiliation! The only other option is more of the same where the polarized groups are constantly worrying about their particular "Key Freedom" being voted away by the other Party once the Election Cycle Swings in the other direction.

And if they were all part of the same apparatus which is all controlled and dictated to by commercial interests and foreign entities? Wouldn't that make the 'divide and conquer' routine a bit of a lie?

Actually waffle there is multiple parties. Libertarian party, independant etc. It's just this idea that there is ONLY democratic/republican has been smashed into everyone's brains for the past half century that everyone just thinks there is only 2 parties.

I don't know about anyone else, but it sure feels like a 2 party dictatorship.

If a third party was looking like it was gonna win, the powers that be (big business, christian churches, etc...) would find a way to call foul and stomp it out. Win or lose, as long as there is a elephant or a donkey in office there will never be anything close to change. That is my opinion.

Yep, people are just ignorant. There are PLENTY of other parties out there, and if an average American looks, they are bound to find a non-Dem/Rep that more closely matches their ideals.

Bob Barr
Chuck Baldwin
Ralph Nader

And honestly....the list goes on and on. Can you imagine a country where there are 5-6 Candidates which all get the same attention? I'm telling you this country would be a WAYYYY better place to live.

Not really. You have to remember that the groups I've mentioned in my hypothetical third party, are all polarized groups that forgive the pun, don't tend to waffle! If these groups were merged by a party who's doctrine is to uphold these peoples key wants Religiously, They would have enough power to wipe out the Corporate controlled parties of the day.

The Republicans and Democrats hold their power base because these Key voting groups don't really have anywhere else to go. Should the groups I've mentioned group together under a third party their political voting power would be unstoppable. Once in power, this third party, that doesn't have to rely on corporate or lobby interests, could stomp out the cancerous Corporate and foreign Lobby's and their control of the Countries agenda.

Should groups try to infiltrate and undermine the third party, they get booted to the curb once they undermine one of the established Doctrines of the party. Simple as that! The party wouldn't need them if it had the support of the four groups I've mentioned as they would surely represent a majority of voters! Media manipulation! Forget it. These groups would always have in the back of their minds the fact that by grouping together, they are protecting each of their key wants. Should the Corporate controlled Media attack one of the groups, the other groups would be under attack as well! They are a group!

Sure there are all kinds of parties. But they all have one thing in common, they cater to specific groups. A party of the type I've mentioned is totally different. It is designed to give and maintain several key voting groups something that they would absolutely cherish. A key freedom that would permanently improve their lifestyle!

Today's parties pay lip service to these groups, every four years, spouting out a few well written, inspiring words, every election time, and what is the end result? Women, Gays and Lesbians, Gun Owners, aging and sickly people all head to the polls, vote, and get let down again! Look at how a relatively small group,AIPAC, wields far more power than these massive groups could imagine. The reason! because they religiously go after what they want, not waffling or changing direction at all costs! Should these four huge groups learn to compromise with each other,(non of their key wants is in direct conflict with the others), they would be the power to be reckoned with. All they have to do is understand what doesn't work, the way they have been doing it for years; and what does work, emulate what AIPAC does!

And therein lies the problem. For every other party is a 'special interest' party. One cares about environment while the other wants lots of guns to kill critters and saws to cut down trees so they can kill more critters. Every one of them would want their problem addressed first and would never ever ever ever agree to step aside and back the other one. Therefore they will never come together. I wish we could make a party for the 'Let's help the world survive' issue. Closest I have found is Green, but we have been labeled as cookoo's cause of Nader's silliness :)

We should be like Denmark or whatever country in EU has the Pirate party. We would mostly all join that.

Howdy everybody, Joe Sixpack here. As we know, everyone in Washington DC are assholes of varying degree. Last week we called Sarah Palin out for being a dumb cunt and an asshole. And that's coming from me. If you're actually voting for Palin, people named cadpig, you're a dumb asshole enabler. Palin is worthless and would have the US on a road to destruction that would involve hurting our allies too. What's even more disturbing than people who watched Palin on Katie Couric wanting to vote for her ...
