It's easy to incorporate pics in blogs. Upload your pic to a photo sharing site like photobucket and use the html link provided.(videos as well)

Other than by general definition, blogs indicate original content, I don't see why they couldn't be about anything. If the topic or the writing sucks, someone will let you know straight away.

^ yes they will bash you to shit. Which for a new blog writer on their first blog can be pretty intimidating so some basic guidelines may help a well meaning writer to avoid the pitch forks and flames.

A basic guideline might be:

more than 2 sentences

acceptable grammar although slang is also acceptable

Try to find something you consider interesting or amusing

Dont copy what other people say

My comment would be that "spontaneity" is good, only if it's well planned.

One Margery Allingham wrote the following:

"I write the first draft to get the meaning.

The second draft to put in everything I left out.

The third draft to take out what doesn't belong.

And the fourth draft to make it sound like I just thought of it."

A bit too much work perhaps for a simple submission here on SW, but a very helpful guideline to keep in mind. Or so I think.

^ Yeah I can see where your coming from but thats too much effort for me :P. I go by 'write everything spontaneously then leave it sit 2 days'. If it still sounds as good as I thought then its good enough to edit and post.

A good blog needs numerous penis references, and many allusions to deviant sexual behavior.

1. Don't be too concise, but at the same time don't drag on.

2. Back up whatever points you make with examples and sources if possible.

3. Make sure it is readable. Little to no spelling/grammar/punctuation errors. Especially make sure commas are in the right spots as it affects the flow of reading.

4. If you are trying to argue something, make sure your article is 'waterproof'. Read it over and try to pick out soft spots that others can tear apart your argument, fix them, then repeat. If they can't argue it, they'll shout it.

5. Try to avoid topics that have been done to death: Atheism vs Religion, Feminazism, How Bush is a War Criminal, etc. Instead, know your target audience and write to appeal them. Usually a scientific article with good explanations in laymans terms will be appreciated.

6. Don't make fattie paragraphs. Be generous with paragraphing. It's hard to find my spot again if I look away momentarily from the massive wall of text I'm trying to poke through. Instead, make your paragraphs about 3-5 sentences long. Makes it a lot easier to read.

7. Usually the best blogs are the passionate ones. Write something when you've been stirred up. Maybe someone has just raped and butchered 17 children and you are angry at this and want to write a blog talking about the softness of the penal system. Write your thoughts down right away.

8. Be organized. Don't necessarily make an outline or anything. You aren't getting paid to write. What I mean is don't keep jumping around from point to point with no smooth transition.

9. Tie it all up nicely at the end. Your concluding paragraph should include all the points you made and you should explain how they all come together to form the main idea you've just outlined in your entire blog.

10. A good blog is a blog that gets responses. Controversy is the most popular method of doing this.

11. Have your own unique style of writing: Sarcastic, dry, crude humour, serious, etc. For added effect, you could even write your blog in the way you'd normally speak if you have an accent.

Example (New Yorker):

Normal: Writing blogs is no burden.
New York: Writin' blahgs is no boyden.

Poor example, but you get the picture. It's just a little suggestion, though I wouldn't overruse it as that'd affect readability.
