This is the first part of many lists on science fiction writers and is an experiment in democracy.

Upon reading my previous post I must admit that the time frame is off even if Burroughs is awesome and piratical ... I digress. I would like to change my nomination to Rod Serling. During his lifetime, Rod Serling received six Emmys, and his biggest successes in writing include:

* Patterns (1955)
* Requiem for a Heavyweight (1956)
* The Comedian (1957)
* A Town Has Turned to Dust (1958)
* The Velvet Alley (1958)
* The Twilight Zone (1959 - 1965 television series)
* Night Gallery (1970 - 1973 television series)
* Planet of the Apes (1968 co-written with Michael Wilson)

not to mention he was a US Army Paratrooper & demolition specialist with a bronze star and a purple heart. Thats right in my book bad ass is synonymous with rod serling

I don't know if H.P. Lovecraft is actually sci-fi or fantasy/horror, but if his works could be considered sci-fi, he deserves a mention.

His works continue to influence sci-fi, fantasy and horror today.

I'd toss in Alastair Reynolds (as long as we forget about Century Rain) as well, and perhaps Stephen Baxter.

I'm noticing a distinct lack of Iain M. Banks in the comments section.

I love the way he's willing to kill characters off without even a moment's foreboding, unlike a lot of writers who need either a 200 page buildup or some sort of miracle to bring them back after they've died.

Also, Use of Weapons has one of the most evil ways of screwing with your enemy. Ever.

FidoQuick Take On The RNC
Being an open minded individual, I decided to spend a couple hours watching the Republican national convention in St Paul, or Minneapolis, Minnesota, or wherever it is. I had initially tuned in to watch Sarah Palin’s address, in order to maybe get a read on what she may be all about. I regret that I couldn’t get that far. After viewing Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee and Rudy Giuliani speak to the delegates, I felt an overwhelming need to seek asylum in another country. ...

BebichanInterview With Westboro Baptist Church!!!
This interview was compiled by myself and the great Nodnarb232001. Questions were selected from suggestions made by our great, dedicated, Shoutwire users, as well as a couple of our own suggestions!Nodnarb232001- Yep, and now we would like to ask Shirley Phelps-Roper old Freddy Phelps himself, and anyone from their congregation to come here defend their views from some of our users' unholy "persecution". We need to be reminded of just why we're going to hell.Just cl...
