I have heard more about Ron Paul in the last two months than I’ve heard about any politician in my whole life. Everyone seems to be jumping on the bandwagon, not because they love his policies, but because it’s the cool thing to do.

Everyone hears about his fundraising, his love of America and the constitution, but has anyone bothered to actually look into his platform? I have, and I’ve compiled a list of Ron Paul’s poison pills. Here they are.

Home Schooling

“My commitment to ensuring home schooling remains a practical alternative for American families is unmatched by any Presidential candidate.”

I’m glad that he thinks parents are smart enough to teach their kids all that is necessary to lead productive and happy lives. Back here in reality though, parents are often less intelligent than their own kids. It’d be like the blind leading the blind, ffs. There’s just so much to mock here that I can’t even decide what to write. Let’s just say that home schooling is a retarded idea, and that the money that Ron Paul plans to waste on this would be better spent improving public schools, where professional teachers can teach a proper curriculum.

“I am committed to guaranteeing parity for home school diplomas and advancing equal scholarship consideration for students entering college from a home school environment.”

Ahahahahaha! Is this guy for real? So if my redneck Grade 6 dropout Dad home schooled me, my “diploma” would be just as valid as someone who went to an actual school? What can you even say to that?

Foreign Policy

“Under no circumstances should the U.S. again go to war as the result of a resolution that comes from an unelected, foreign body, such as the United Nations.”

When has that happened? Usually the US just marches off to war WITHOUT a UN mandate.

There aren’t many quotables in here, as he manages to say a lot without saying anything at all. I gather though that he wants to pull American troops out of, well, everywhere but America. Admirable. I’ve no beef with that.

Liberties

“I am also the prime sponsor of HR 300, which would negate the effect of Roe v Wade by removing the ability of federal courts to interfere with state legislation to protect life. This is a practical, direct approach to ending federal court tyranny which threatens our constitutional republic and has caused the deaths of 45 million of the unborn.”

That’ll get you a lot of votes from the ladies. He has torpedoed any hope of becoming president with this one statement. Good job, Ronnie.

Sovereignty

“NAFTA’s superhighway is just one part of a plan to erase the borders between the U.S. and Mexico, called the North American Union.”

Even Ron Paul isn’t beyond fear mongering. Despite what ShoutWire’s paranoid bunker-dwelling nutcases keep repeating, the chance of a North American Union becoming a reality is nil. Oh my God, not a highway! We’re DOOMED!!

Guns

“H.R. 1897 would end the ban on carrying a firearm in the National Park System, restoring Americans’ ability to protect themselves in potentially hazardous situations.”

Yeah because you need to have a gun in a national park. Why the hell is this such a big deal?

“H.R. 1096 includes provisions repealing the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act and the Federal Firearms License Reform Act of 1993, two invasive and unconstitutional bills.”

Of course! Making someone wait 5 days before they buy and handgun is a ridiculously oppressive law isn’t it? Dumbass.

I will never understand why Americans would fight so hard for the right to carry around weapons with them. Are you so afraid of your fellow countrymen that you can’t fathom leaving home without a weapon? Sad.

“I also recently opposed H.R. 2640, which would allow government-appointed psychiatrists to ban U.S. veterans experiencing even mild forms of Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome from ever owning a gun.”

This statement is so stupid that I won’t even dignify it with a response.

All of the above was pulled directly from Ron Paul’s site. I didn’t want to address other things that I’ve heard about Ron Paul (his plan to disband the IRS, his supposed support of white supremacy, etc).

I’ll end this by offering up a couple of predictions:

- Ron Paul will never be president, despite the support of millions of non-voters on the internet.

- People will start experiencing “Ron Paul Fatigue” from the endless stream of non-news Ron Paul-related articles on the internet.

I couldn’t possibly predict who the next US president will be, but I can tell you who it WON’T be – Ron Paul.

I stand against Ron Paul for the simple basis of ecomonic theory, and the vision of the country that simply doesn't exist.

Saddly, the reason why Federalism became so strong in the 1960's is because some of the states failed to meet the pressure of economic and social change. Read: Farm subsidies, the interstate system, and civil rights. The state governments were so consumed in maintaining their own place of power and to continue the status quo which provided them well, but didn't spread out enough.

Everytime that someone tries to dismantle the Federalist system, America slips even more to a lower position compared to the rest of the world. A good balance is in order I believe, and it appears.

And one thing that has been repeatedly and painfully obvious is that if you let people do whatever they want to make whatever money they want, overall quality of life declines for everyone except a very slight few, and social instability ensues. In reality, what should be the "perfect system" degrades to near hellish conditions very, very quickly. Please, stop voting against your economic interests because of ideology or obscure hope to be an elite, you won't in all likeliness.

As for guns: People may kill people... but guns make it a lot easier. Also, most "illegal" guns start off as legal ones that get lost and stolen.

I am for his anti-war stance. Period.

"What your taught is often decided by the department of education, Ill NEVER leave anyone else to teach my kids, 6 hours a day, 5 days a week. How will I know they're talents are being nourished in a meaningful way."

Yanno know how? Get involved in the school system and your kids education. It's not an extreme situation, either you teach your kids or the professionals, but a concerted effort. Might mean you have to help out other people's kids in the process. Think you're up for it?

"Kids in american SCHOOLS are actuallly exposed to phyche exams and phyche DRUGS without parental consent. F that off."

I call bullshit. Drugs are very serious, and if they are administered most schools have to inform parents to take action. Mostly, it's the parents drugging their damn kids. But for sake of arguement do you have a case study showing widespread implementation of these programmes?

"What your taught is often decided by the department of education, Ill NEVER leave anyone else to teach my kids, 6 hours a day, 5 days a week. How will I know they're talents are being nourished in a meaningful way."

The Department of Education? I always thought more by local school boards, but I reckon it also depends heavily on where you live and the breakdown of the education system between muncipal, county (unless in CT), and state authorities. All I know is about CT, and it's not really that way.

@whoever wrote this:

"Oh yeah and reflections is absolutely right. Do you honestly believe that these so called "teachers" in american schools are any more qualified than your average mature adult?"

Depends on where you live. Here in CT you do have to go through an intensive certification process and a grip on the materials you are teaching. But because we actually pay our teachers well (hell, I'm training to be one to help out kids from Waterbury or Bridgeport, but even in these urban areas the pay is decent enough to live off comfortably) so the demand for talented teachers by district is high.

I had a great Public School education, which I am continuing here at UCONN. But for it to work, you have to back it, it is entirely the key to success of the community and the biggest benefit. Think about it, good schools greatly increase the property value.

@All

Does anyone know more about Bill Richardson? He seems much more balanced and qualified than any other of these suckers. Everytime I hear anything from him, I like him a little more.

~Cheers

"Bul, lemme know who you WOULD vote for if you could."

I'm looking into it right now. There will be a follow up editorial, perhaps several, regarding the other candidates.

"Abortion I will not address as that is the candidate's own moral belief and choice, you either agree or not"

Yeah, but THIS candidate has stated his intention to force his personal belief on the entire country.

"The mexican president already came public with the fact that he met with Bush in private and they agreed to bring in a new amero currency so you have no clue what you are talking about, the plans are already in place."

They did meet. The Canadian Prime Minister was involved as well. Did they decide to implement the Amero, or are they going to? no. Do you know why?

For this to happen, it would require a public mandate. that means that either it would be an election issue (at the very least) or it would require a referendum. No Canadian politician in his or her right mind would ever run an election on this issue. It'd be political suicide. As for a referendum, here's what the results would look like:

"For" votes - 50, probably all from Alberta

"Against" votes - 31,999,950

So unless America is planning a military takeover of North America to FORCE an NAU, it isn't going to happen.

Give this a read:

Americans aren't too keen on the idea either, so i've heard.

"Stick to topics you can actually comment on without looking like a fool."

You just came off looking like a 14 year-old idiot. Someone needs to better inform themselves all right...

Well, of course Bulshoy doesn't like Ron Paul. Bulshoy is a socialist and Ron Paul is the anti-socialist.
Sorry Bulshoy, but I am tired of paying a federal government to shit on my head and then ask me if I want more. They haven't exactly proven themselves to be effective...especially with the kind of money we throw at them.

@Fido

"The world is not the same as it was then, no matter how much one would want it to be."

And you know why this is Fido??? It's because our country has been run by assholes for at least 60 of those 100 years!

Maybe ANYONE with an idea that is not following the current "party lines" (it's funny to say lines, plural, becuase we really only have one party, the party of corporate lackeys) will be better than 4 to 8 more years of the same crap we've been fed for the last near century!

In fact, at the rate things are going if you didn't like how things were 100 years ago, as you say things will go back to being, how do you feel about going back to around 60 years ago and talking to anyone who was against Hitler and Moussolini. I'm sure there were plenty of people who would have liked things to be different, but it's people like you who only try to tear down others without EVER presenting a better way that is a problem bigger than this shitty government.

Give up the ghost Fido, you're just a complainer with nothing but hot air filling your head. Use that fat lump you call a brain and give us an answer for a reasonable person to vote for that isn't Ron Paul and who actually has a chance to win. Like it or not, Dr. Paul DOES have a chance.

""Modern day prophet" - classic. Yeah I was leaning towards Ron Paul until I checked some of his domestic ideas myself. The abortion ban alone is enough to guarantee he's unelectable."

He's isn't looking to ban abortion. Read that line again, He isn't looking to ban abortion. He's looking to get the federal government hand out of it to leave it up to states. That is how a Republic works. Which we are supposed to be by the way. Leave the governing up to the states and that way, if you don't believe what those in your state set up, you can go to another state that does things like you want them to.

It's about choice and freedom. Make the choice to be free and end this abomination that our government has become.

Anyone against Ron Paul, I have to believe, doesn't like to truly be free or have choices, except for those choices the government deems fit to offer us. Do you like the choice of agree with Bush or be looked at as a terrorist? That's what his newest bill will bring to us. Clinton and Obama and Guilianni will all be more of the same.

WHY ISN'T THE ENTIRE COUNTRY SCREAMING FOR CHANGE???

And on that topic, why are there people not living in our country that would want anyone OTHER than Ron Paul. For all you know your country will be next on the list of places for us to attack with a status quo vote next year. Well, except if you're from Canada or England. We'll never attack you, we CONTROL you.
