I have heard more about Ron Paul in the last two months than I’ve heard about any politician in my whole life. Everyone seems to be jumping on the bandwagon, not because they love his policies, but because it’s the cool thing to do.

Everyone hears about his fundraising, his love of America and the constitution, but has anyone bothered to actually look into his platform? I have, and I’ve compiled a list of Ron Paul’s poison pills. Here they are.

Home Schooling

“My commitment to ensuring home schooling remains a practical alternative for American families is unmatched by any Presidential candidate.”

I’m glad that he thinks parents are smart enough to teach their kids all that is necessary to lead productive and happy lives. Back here in reality though, parents are often less intelligent than their own kids. It’d be like the blind leading the blind, ffs. There’s just so much to mock here that I can’t even decide what to write. Let’s just say that home schooling is a retarded idea, and that the money that Ron Paul plans to waste on this would be better spent improving public schools, where professional teachers can teach a proper curriculum.

“I am committed to guaranteeing parity for home school diplomas and advancing equal scholarship consideration for students entering college from a home school environment.”

Ahahahahaha! Is this guy for real? So if my redneck Grade 6 dropout Dad home schooled me, my “diploma” would be just as valid as someone who went to an actual school? What can you even say to that?

Foreign Policy

“Under no circumstances should the U.S. again go to war as the result of a resolution that comes from an unelected, foreign body, such as the United Nations.”

When has that happened? Usually the US just marches off to war WITHOUT a UN mandate.

There aren’t many quotables in here, as he manages to say a lot without saying anything at all. I gather though that he wants to pull American troops out of, well, everywhere but America. Admirable. I’ve no beef with that.

Liberties

“I am also the prime sponsor of HR 300, which would negate the effect of Roe v Wade by removing the ability of federal courts to interfere with state legislation to protect life. This is a practical, direct approach to ending federal court tyranny which threatens our constitutional republic and has caused the deaths of 45 million of the unborn.”

That’ll get you a lot of votes from the ladies. He has torpedoed any hope of becoming president with this one statement. Good job, Ronnie.

Sovereignty

“NAFTA’s superhighway is just one part of a plan to erase the borders between the U.S. and Mexico, called the North American Union.”

Even Ron Paul isn’t beyond fear mongering. Despite what ShoutWire’s paranoid bunker-dwelling nutcases keep repeating, the chance of a North American Union becoming a reality is nil. Oh my God, not a highway! We’re DOOMED!!

Guns

“H.R. 1897 would end the ban on carrying a firearm in the National Park System, restoring Americans’ ability to protect themselves in potentially hazardous situations.”

Yeah because you need to have a gun in a national park. Why the hell is this such a big deal?

“H.R. 1096 includes provisions repealing the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act and the Federal Firearms License Reform Act of 1993, two invasive and unconstitutional bills.”

Of course! Making someone wait 5 days before they buy and handgun is a ridiculously oppressive law isn’t it? Dumbass.

I will never understand why Americans would fight so hard for the right to carry around weapons with them. Are you so afraid of your fellow countrymen that you can’t fathom leaving home without a weapon? Sad.

“I also recently opposed H.R. 2640, which would allow government-appointed psychiatrists to ban U.S. veterans experiencing even mild forms of Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome from ever owning a gun.”

This statement is so stupid that I won’t even dignify it with a response.

All of the above was pulled directly from Ron Paul’s site. I didn’t want to address other things that I’ve heard about Ron Paul (his plan to disband the IRS, his supposed support of white supremacy, etc).

I’ll end this by offering up a couple of predictions:

- Ron Paul will never be president, despite the support of millions of non-voters on the internet.

- People will start experiencing “Ron Paul Fatigue” from the endless stream of non-news Ron Paul-related articles on the internet.

I couldn’t possibly predict who the next US president will be, but I can tell you who it WON’T be – Ron Paul.

Bulshoy... Ron Paul is the best candidate running for president, if you think otherwise you are highly misguided. Also, if you think ridiculous policies are what keep president from being elected than you might want to do some research on elected presidents and thier policies. What gets a president elected is name recognition developed by their PR dept.

-Home Schooling

-"My commitment to ensuring home schooling remains a practical alternative for American families is unmatched by any Presidential candidate."

-I'm quite undecided about who i want to run as our president, either way i feel we're getting fucked, however ron paul though not perfect is an ideal choice, will he be president? probably not, but your reasons are terrible. It actually looks as if you're doing this soley for the novelty.

- Ahahahahaha! Is this guy for real? So if my redneck Grade 6 dropout Dad home schooled me, my "diploma" would be just as valid as someone who went to an actual school? What can you even say to that?

In order for children to be home schooled children are still required state mandated tests, if the children fail and it's clearly the education the parents have been giving them, the state will either send the child to school or punish the parents (in fact if children get bad grades and it's the teacher's fault they punish the teacher, i know many teachers who have lost large chunks of their pay checks because the class grade average was lower than the national threshold.)

-Foreign Policy

-"Under no circumstances should the U.S. again go to war as the result of a resolution that comes from an unelected, foreign body, such as the United Nations."

-When has that happened? Usually the US just marches off to war WITHOUT a UN mandate.

You can't get alot of information out of this and although it may sound quite direct this quote is very vague, you're just looking to bash him (just like i bashed you). But the UN does need to be reworked so their opinion isn't the best and war should always be done when the reason is absolute and the last choice.

-Liberties

-"I am also the prime sponsor of HR 300, which would negate the effect of Roe v Wade by removing the ability of federal courts to interfere with state legislation to protect life. This is a practical, direct approach to ending federal court tyranny which threatens our constitutional republic and has caused the deaths of 45 million of the unborn."

-That'll get you a lot of votes from the ladies. He has torpedoed any hope of becoming president with this one statement. Good job, Ronnie.

His quote appeals to those horrified by abortion as well as decrease the federal governments power which has shown to always be a good thing.

-Sovereignty

-"NAFTA's superhighway is just one part of a plan to erase the borders between the U.S. and Mexico, called the North American Union."

-Even Ron Paul isn't beyond fear mongering. Despite what ShoutWire's paranoid bunker-dwelling nutcases keep repeating, the chance of a North American Union becoming a reality is nil. Oh my God, not a highway! We're DOOMED!!

Did you actually state a point here?

-Guns

-"H.R. 1897 would end the ban on carrying a firearm in the National Park System, restoring Americans' ability to protect themselves in potentially hazardous situations."

-Yeah because you need to have a gun in a national park. Why the hell is this such a big deal?

-I will never understand why Americans would fight so hard for the right to carry around weapons with them. Are you so afraid of your fellow countrymen that you can't fathom leaving home without a weapon? Sad.

Banning guns only stops innocent people who follow the law, taking away the ban helps turn the tables on criminals. The 5 day waiting rule has never shown to actually do anything and although this is a very small problem criminals don't have to wait 5 days. Americans fight for their right because it is their right.

-"I also recently opposed H.R. 2640, which would allow government-appointed psychiatrists to ban U.S. veterans experiencing even mild forms of Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome from ever owning a gun."

-This statement is so stupid that I won't even dignify it with a response.

You can't state an argument yet you quote him? I'll ignore you did that.

Most of the solders in Iraq disagree with the war, do you think a solder forced to do something he probably feels is immoral will remain loyal to the US if he appears shellshocked and mentally unstable?

@hockeygod, I dont have kids yet.

If i did all I can say is that I would want a larger role in the kids week then the current education system grants me.

Trust me, my kids wont suffer the way I did just because I learnt in a different way. Sometimes I went well, but other times I was largely ignored and I now see that art and science could be better supported in mainstream teaching.

@FIDO
I still don't get how anyone can hate a 'libertarian'. Do u want your freedoms to be restriced?;
...keeping in mind the opposite is more control over your LIFE being put in someone else's hands. HOW can u hate freedom.

Obviously a stupid red-neck dad will continue to do the thing he is told to do and get his kid a half-decent education at a school. Everyone wins.

I know that I am perfectly capable of teaching my kid, and being a libertarian, if I have to be so-called
...I would give anyone the freedom to do choose for themselves ...if only I was granted the same freedoms.

I expect RP to ignite a change in many Western countries. Definetly not perfect, but a start.

DOWN with freedom, UP with corporate facism/fundamentalism. YEAY BULSHOY. NOT!

nobody is perfect, but Ron Paul is the closest thing you Americans have. I'm English and would love to see him run this country, but he's in America, and if he wins, we'll still benefit from it. We would have an honest ally at our sides, that doesent pull us into crappy made up wars.

It's the first Ron Paul article i have read that's negative, I figure your just fed up of seeing his name, he is a better man than you, or any other shoutwire user. Lets see you run for presedent..

Ok, whack job isn't appropriate, I'm sure he's intelligent and well intentioned.

Bsically he proposes a return to a style of government that is 100 years removed from the modern world. I commented on this in another thread.

The world is not the same as it was then, no matter how much one would want it to be.

FidoQuick Take On The RNC
Being an open minded individual, I decided to spend a couple hours watching the Republican national convention in St Paul, or Minneapolis, Minnesota, or wherever it is. I had initially tuned in to watch Sarah Palin’s address, in order to maybe get a read on what she may be all about. I regret that I couldn’t get that far. After viewing Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee and Rudy Giuliani speak to the delegates, I felt an overwhelming need to seek asylum in another country. ...
