death of the newspaper? while the paper's paperness might die, we will still need to hire reporters to go out into the field and collect stories and information. How many reporters do google news, shoutwire, and digg have on their payrolls?

I have to disagree with newspapers. They seem to be as popular as ever, at least here in Australia. Sometimes it's nice to give your eyes a break from staring at a screen, and its easier to carry around than a laptop. Besides, all major newspapers have online versions as well. Landline phones aren't any less popular either. Just ask anyone in telemarketing.

I don't have a SINGLE physical CD, BUT all my 34GB of music is comprised of ONLY albums and oraganized as such. People need to learn that there are albums for a reason.

NewsPAPER will die. But much like Podcasts exsist today, you'll be able to subscribe to daily updates to your wireless Blackberry (or similar device).

I disagree that people are letting albums die. I too have many albums on my HDD.

Great article once again, Hockey.

#8 will take a great deal of time to come to pass. Locally, there is a manpower shortage that will only increase as more baby-boomers retire. This gives employees more power than they ever had before, to choose jobs with working environments that they like.

It's easy enough for me to spot. When I graduated, people with degrees were working for 5$ an right of college. There just wasn't any available jobs. But as the boomers started to retire, we got their jobs. Now you look at untrained teenagers, who are making 15$ an hour, at age 16-18. Things are definitely on the up-and-up, as far as the employee having power.

But that will eventually pass, due to globalism. I don't think it will be quick. There is a lot of positive inertia to be overcome locally, before it begins to slide the other direction. Currently though, employee power (in the US and Can anyway) is on the rise.

Albums and CDs or whatever you wanna call them will be around for a while, as people love music, and it is the passion of some people. Ill stick with my 40+ gigs of music on my HD.

I hope I live long enough to experience (and understand) the technology 30 or so years from now.

Im thinking, holographic imaging, unimaginable audio and video clarity...games seemingly as real as life. Most home users net speed running at terabytes and beyond...

Unions will stay around. You are dearly mistaken on that issue. You're expressing a wish only, not reality.

@HockeyGod

"Of course, most of you probably favor the free but illegal downloading option."

Actually in most countries, including England, it is LEGAL to download, but ILLEGAL to upload.

Ever utter the words “It’s cold”… everReal men aren’t stopped by pesky things like low temperatures. If there is a shelter to be built, Nazis to be killed, or wood to be chopped, you can bet there is also a blizzard going on outside. It is how the universe works. We can never have anything nice. Peeing outside… at least once a week… is mandatorySometimes a man just has to turn off the TV, stand up, walk outside, and piss all over a tree. Dogs do this to mark th...
