If we want the general public to use better software, we've got to stop blaming them for not being computer experts. Users shouldn't have to know how a computer works to use one. I don't know how my car works and I get to use it. And spare me the analogy that knowing how to prevent port 80 attacks or knowing that Firefox is an open source browser distributed for free is the same as knowing that I have to use my blinker to turn right.

Oh yeah, three cheers for the scam busters.

In the beginning, a programmer and a computer user was the same thing....what went wrong....what went wrong !!!!

Because "muggles" want to use computer their came the words software piracy and then software started to cost money and then the whole anti piracy measures, security keys analogue countermeasures and what have you......

I still remember when every piece of software was free.....

I say keep the scam sites open, if your too stupid to figure out that free means free....then you deserve to be ripped off.

Same thing with phishing, hilariously, when you click the link from lets say PayPal it takes you to an ip address thats registered somewhere in korea....

Actually i can justify the 39 dollar sub fee. It's not a sub fee for software, rather a sub fee for ftp access.

Basically they're charging you for downloading from their ftp, not the software offered.

Shady business, YES! Illegal, NO!

These guys are clearly just douche bags who found a "legal" way to screw a few pensioners (who shouldn't be allowed within 10 feet of a computer with their credit cards). But how is that any different from what Microsoft is doing with security? Check out the sales pitch...

So... $50 a year, and they'll do their best to patch up XP's shoddy security for me? And Firefox is only $40 now? I'm grabbing my credit card...

Kyanox, you'll notice that the files are actually downloaded from download.com a free unrelated site. so you are not using their ftp bandwidth at all. your going to have to try a little hard to justify these wankers charging people $39.

I think this happened with the K-Lite Codec pack. Regardless, it's been quite common over the years for folks to nab domain names with similar names to well known products and sell stuff.
