Is it okay to just not vote? What about our civic duty?
Is there anyone feeling apathetic out there? Anyone just not care anymore? Does anyone still watch CNN’s “Issue #1”? Do you still tune in to watch Hannity and Colmes on Fox? If you do, I praise you because I for one cannot and will not. I used to care about which way my country was headed. Now, I don’t mind if it takes a turn and goes down. Instead of left or right, it probably will head downward into the abyss known as “non-superpower”. Scary isn’t it?
Turn on your talking box (something Bradbury should have put in Fahrenheit 451) and go to your favorite, least biased, number one, immortal, godly national news channel. If your choice is CNN then you will here a drum roll that rivals the Trojans when they fought the Greeks in that fake war a couple years ago. The drum role introduces nothing else than a black man/woman blessed by affirmative action to give their opinion on what it feels like to be a Jewish white person over 70 voting in the southwestern part of Georgia. FOX news is not an ounce better. On FOX you will be welcomed with the latest child abduction scam which somehow leads into an interview with Karl Rove in which he gives his opinion on why presidential candidates should limit their slander against one another. These are NEWS channels.
If this was all that was wrong this year I would be apathetic anyways, but let’s not stop here. The media have chosen two candidates for us this year. One is a young, quasi-socialist and the other is a war-tattered old man. The odds in Vegas say that neither of these guys will live out their 4 year sentences; one will be shot and the other may have a heart attack.
I visited Barack Obama’s website and found his “Issues” page. Well, it was really fucking vague but that doesn’t matter. We already know the gist of what Obama wants to do. He wants to place regulations on avenues to make money and he also wants to throw your money at projects that have already failed. He wants to tax and spend on things that make no sense. If you support Obama, I challenge you to come up with one SPECIFIC plan that you really like and support. You can use Google, CNN or whatever. Just find me one plan that you support. The plan cannot say “He is going to get us out of Iraq.” That is not a plan. A plan would actually detail what he is going to do with the troops once they leave Iraq, not to mention HOW they are going to leave Iraq and HOW he will prevent a wave of genocide from overtaking the sand land. I am waiting.
I could have opened up this paragraph on McCain the same as Obama’s, saying how his plans are pretty vague but I won’t. (They do this so that when they get into office they do not have to stick to anything they promised prior to election.) McCain is a pretty straightforward kind of guy. He wants to stay in Iraq (for one motive or another) and he wants to use an out of date economic policy to fix the economy (which is not really broken). I really cannot vote for this guy based on those two things alone. Knowing that he isn’t really pro-gay or pro-women’s rights, I definitely will not vote for McCain.
I have yet to hear any solution to the Middle East Crisis (removing all troops). I have yet to hear any solution to our immigration problem (helping them and fixing up Mexico). I have yet to hear a solution to our healthcare debacle (freeing up the market and getting care to all children). Where are the solutions? They are not in either of these candidates. Both want to give tax breaks to different groups of people and the dumb masses are eating it up. No one realizes that any tax break now just puts us further into debt with China and the East. Ahh, but I digress.
Come November I will do my civic duty. I will not vote. I urge you to do your duty as well. I will not vote until the duopoly eases the restrictions for third parties. We wonder why our government has been broken. It is because third parties have not been allowed to ascend into the mainstream. Newer and newer restrictions come and no one even notices. Third parties bring new issues to the table and they allow for a part of the country to be heard that would have otherwise gone unnoticed. I am tired of choosing between two corporate bought, tax hungry, complacent parties. The only way I will vote is if there is an option to vote for “None of the Above”. That will never happen but that does not change the fact that I have absolutely no confidence in my government and I have absolutely no confidence in either of the parties. I am tired of the charade. Come November, I will be holding my silent protest and you know what? It won’t matter and I am past the point of caring.
(Don’t tell me to be a fucking activist either. Fuck activists)
