Bush Vows to Take ‘message of Freedom’ to The Beijing Olympics.
In other news, Bush vows to take ‘message of freedom’ to the Beijing Olympics. I’m glad I heard that before I went to work, my god did it make me laugh. Now, truth be told I don’t know an incredible amount about George Bush’s political history, domestic policies, and everything else that will most probably be bought up in the comments section, so I want to make this clear that I’m only concerning myself with American foreign policy.
Now back to the “message of freedom”. Freedom to me implies you can do whatever the fuck you like, within the rule of law obviously, without any external restraints. It’s really nice that Bush is putting forth this international message of peace and cooperation, of human rights and freedom, even though, in reality, the American government has been doing the complete opposite. It doesn’t matter America invaded Iraq, not to free the people from the murderous Bath regime, not because intelligence showed that Iraq had developed WMD’s, not because Saddam openly used chemical weapons on ‘his own people’ – all of which would have been admirable reasons, but because Saddam was no longer needed. No longer was Saddam American’s strongman in the region as he was after the Iraq/Iran war. A war which was instigated by Saddam, along with the military support of the US, but also a war in which the majority of American’s would be brainwashed into believing that Iran where the aggressors, up until the recent conflict of course. The support shown to Saddam had absolutely nothing to do with the American government’s fear of Ayatollah Khomeini’s Islamic revolution in Iran.
It’s also important to note that when Saddam was actually gassing the Kurds (with American chemicals, sold under the pretences of being ‘agricultural’ supplies) during the Iraq/Iran war, the story didn’t feature much in the American media. Flash forward to 2003 and you can be sure that Saddam’s atrocities got the coverage it deserved.
This deceit shouldn’t really surprise anyone. In almost the same fashion, Osama Bin Laden and his mujahidin fighters, later to be known as Al Qaeda, were also supported by the United States of America. Why? Because Bin Laden was useful at the time as he was fighting against the Russian invasion of Afghanistan (1979) and therefore fighting to stop the communist spread. After 9/11 Bin Laden became the new evil, even though the FBI had “no hard evidence connecting Bin Laden” to the massacre of almost 3,000 Americans. The subsequent invasion of Afghanistan is as they say history.
Now it seems, your governments is trying to convince the world that the ‘small pockets of resistance’ still present in both Afghanistan and Iraq are from external terrorist sympathizing states e.g. Pakistan sending men and weapons into the region. Indeed, this is probable to a certain degree; however, what is happening on a much larger scale is a popular insurgency by the Iraqi and Afghani people. These ‘pockets of resistance’ might possibly be terrorist groups trying to stick it to America, or more likely, they are citizens fighting against occupation. They are actually fighting against American ‘freedom’.
Now I really do hope that this so called ‘peace’ George is taking to the Olympic Games with him isn’t emulated by any other nation with enough money to do any damage. I say this because; all too often, George Bush’s version of ‘peace’ translates into bloodshed and mystery for millions of families across the Globe.
I guess sometimes all you can do is laugh.
