I grew up a poor black kid too. We ate spaghetti soup when i was a kid (thats spaghetti noodles in salted water).
I was called names. I was raised in the same society. Somehow, I managed to avoid the trappings of a pity-me community that most blacks embrace, studied hard, joined the military, went to college, and worked my ass off doing everything from Roofing to truck driving to fast food, and I never let anyone or anything stop me.
