Why The Brits Are Setting Terrorists Free

It turns out that the U.S., whose Supreme Court last month ruled that non-American prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay may challenge their detention, isn't the only country where judges are hampering the war on terror. Many people here are rubbing their eyes at the fact that Britain is letting out of jail some of al Qaeda's most dangerous members.

I was just about to congratulate you on choosing a source other than a) the BNP or b) the Daily Mail. Until i noted who wrote the article: "Ms. Phillips is a columnist for the Daily Mail". I honestly thought the tone of it sounded familiar.

But seriously, i thought the government was appealing the decision against deportation?

One glance at the comments on any of Godson's posts quickly illustrates WHY we are allowing suspected terrorists to go free, and ultimately why we can never win the war on terrorism.

When people even refuse to acknowledge the simple fact that there ARE people who really REALLY want to do you harm, and without public support to do the hardest of things (namely remove someone's freedom in order to secure the safety of others),we can never, ever win.

Many people foolishly believe that we can simply sit down with these people and resolve our issues like grade school children. I mean, they REALLY, really think that. They dont seem to understand, or are unwilling to try to understand that the reason we've severely limited the number of terrorist attacks in western countries is due largely in part to the fact that we havent taken any chances and are detaining anyone with even the slightest association to the very extremist groups that sit around secretly hoping and plotting for the day they can take hundreds of innocent lives in the name of their various causes.

It is this 'social sympathy' that we are affording them now that inadvertently places us all in danger. What is worse, is that if we released all of the detainees in Guantanamo and other installations, and those people found their way back to blow up innocent people, they would simply then just BLAME the government as having caused it by detaining these people in the first place and MAKING them into terrorists.

We live in a world where the underdog is always supported regardless of that underdog's agenda. Any authority figure, no matter how noble their cause, is seen as the 'bad guy'.
The government is sadly a victim of it's own success.. by eliminating terrorist threats and preventing serious attacks against our people, they have inadvertently given a false sense of security to the general public, allowing them to start concocting these wacky ideas of how evil the 'government' is.

The saddest thing of all is all it would take is one, just ONE major terrorist attack that kills more than a dozen americans on american soil, and the public will once again be begging and demanding that the government 'do something' and smashing the windows of arab store owners all over again as we were post 9/11.

Fear is a GREAT motivator, but it wont be the government's 'fear mongering' that brings us around, it'll be the fear of an enemy that is absolutely dead serious about killing as many of us as they can for the most ridiculous of reasons.

Winning the war on terrorism is an oxymoron.

Save your breath, Hyena, you bloated windbag. We can't win the war on terrorism for the same reason we can't win the war on drugs, the war on poverty, the war on the mole people, etc.

@hyena

Did you even read the article? It says right fuckin up front that there is no evidence to support their imprisonment. All they have is that the guys have weird names that sound like terrorists.....

Also why the fuk do you idiots think you are the only ones being threatened. Your damn president says you are willing to kill any of them at any time for any reason because you think they are terrorists. They just attack you in your own countries to keep the war away from home....you know "fight them there so we don't have to fight them here" kinda thing.

YOU ARE RIGHT. most of them who are held there don't even have a right for habeas corpus or right to documentation on their crime and proof of their crime, all which USA denied to them, meaning, most of them are there with NO PROOF of ANY terrorism.

They SHOULD be let free. Damn Bush and his nazi council of friends.

He missed the hatred i guess. He missed blaming the muslims for his disruptive and morally fucked 'white' upbringing. He's just jealous that the majority of muslim families he has seen have had a good and well functioning background and he hasn't. Poor little guy eh?
