Absolutely. I'm from a 14 year old's perspective here (actually being 14 helps with that) and I can safely say that there is no teenager or whatever that's oblivious to this kind of stuff.
It's a matter of stupidity if you meet up with some 42 year old guy you met on MySpace, just one big bad idea.

And I don't see how that girl's going to win her case against MySpace, she met the guy of her own free will, and MySpace couldn't have stopped that happening.

In my opinion, if two people want to meet up, for whatever reason, its not really anyone elses place to intervine(spelling?). It may be wrong in some peoples view, but thats besides the point, isnt denying these two peoples want to meet up against their human rights?

Im not a 42 year old man trying to justify ragging a 12 year old btw, im 19 :P.

But to the article, yes I beleive that the responsibility is with the children and the childrens parents, not myspace.

I think that myspace isnt the problem, it's the stupid people on myspace, If you are gonna meet up with someone for the first time, bring some friends, common logic. Ask for multiple photos, call them first, anything.

Sorta like suing phone companies coz u got raped by someone who you met on the phone, or suing the council coz of the park that u got raped in.

You just need to use some common sense.

PS, myspace is an example of how awful html can look when put in the hands of idiots... I always have a good laugh.

im surprised no hasn't worked this to some kind of profit.

I hate this blame culture, its always someone fault and its so wide spread, like the phone operator that got compensation for litually jacking off at work and ending up with rsi.

Luckily I just deleted my myspace yesterday but that's besides the point.

I don't think that you can really say it's two people business and noone else should stop them from getting together. I have a little sister who is 15 and she is addicted to myspace but she hasn't accepted people she doesn't know. I'm not condoning what these older people are doing but the younger people need to have some sort of common sense about the whole thing. How stupid do you have to be to fall into one of these traps? Honestly.

this is weird.....

cos i started an article ages ago about online safety on profile sites. but i lost it cos of a HDD failure - i was goin to post it on AOL/Discuss [discuss.aol.co.uk]

Now for my research- i sent emails asking questions aobut safety to faceparty & myspace- i got an answer from faceparty- not one from myspace.....

I know there has been tonnes of MySpace incidents in America involving teenagers goin walkies then disappearing-then the "adult" takes advantage-the most recent one is one parent is suing MySpace for $30 Million because her 14 year old daughter met this adult on MySpace... [Link= http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/06/20/myspace_sued/]

Im posting to prove that it aint just MySpace in question here- its parents inconjunction with myspace that makes these incidents...

there are a couple of ways to stop these kinda incidents.... thats if MySpace or parents wants to listen...

1- Deny Under 18's access to over 18's communication- have a system where a person under 18- they cannot be contacted by an over 18+ until they are 18 themsleves & Visa Versa.

2- Make MySpace Over 18's only!!- Introduce a small registration fee- when you register you go through what i call " age verification" system [like what porn sites use-i think its called Veri-sign].
You add your credit card details,Post/Zip code and date of birth-then MySpace sends requests to your bank to see whether the information is correct- also have a little fee around $1 to confirm its your card [Abit like the paypal system]

3-Make parents aware of what their under 18 son or daughter can get up to on the internet- preferably from the government or an Internet group of adults -Make parents aware what can and does happen on the internet [I called it "Par3nts_@war3"]-Offer support and advice to Parents that worry about their offspring when their online and tell stories of parents of what happened to their offspring..

In all honesty-it's all about control and Image to your own offspring-give the wrong impression they take advantage-give the right impression-they'll think twice....

All this from a 20 year old who has a MySpace Profile :P

The "myspace" problem isn't a problem at all. It's just another trumped up situation. The child advocates just need another soapbox to advocate their stupid ideas. The kids are fine. And if your 14yo daughter goes to meet some old fuck who duped her into it, your daughter deserved it. Perhaps if parents would actually raise their kids with a sense of morality, logic, common sense and reason at an early age, instead of letting the television, internet and peers raise them, society wouldn't have such dunderhead kids. I hate it when the "experts" go on about how these predators are "extremely skilled and intelligent". Puhleaze, that's why a minute fraction of kids are falling for it. Calling the predators "smart and skilled" is just a scapegoat so we don't make the parents feel like dumbasses for not raising their children right. Idiots.

I'm 15 and it really suprises me how stupid other people my age are when it's down to this, especially girls, seriously look at nearly any under 18 girls myspace (usually faked age, so it's easy to access) and there is so much stupid BS on there it's unbeleiveable.

People are stupid, there are only minority of people around age that have commen sense.

Hmm last year I made a myspace account and didn't know how to use it, what it was supposed to do, or why I needed it, my friend had one and I thought 'hey this seems cool maybe i'll learn something here'.
(I wasn't looking to pick up i had a boyfriend of 11 months then and he's still my boyfriend now)
After a few days of being busy and forgetting I had made the myspace account I checked back on it, once i finally remembered my password that is.
And what I found was weird.
Many boys had been trying to talk to me, one had even written multiple messages to me asking why I had not replied.
WTF?
I didn't know one of them! Not one!
I then deleted the account as it was not the site it claimed to be: a site where young people could share their love of music and so-forth.
I am lucky =]

Ok, ladies, and some of you gents, this is for you.At some point in time EVERY guy has cum too soon. And it IS because he has a problem; over stimulation.Next to basement dwellers, married men have one of the worst sex lives. For married men it's a case of familiarity breeding contempt. For the basement dwellers, it's just lack of social skills and the sight of real live boobs.Women, if a guy cums quickly, it's a sign that he's very anxious to rock your thigh clam a...
