This post will be used as a community discussion as to how to address our SW gripes constructively and offer up solutions that work for all of us. It will stay on the top until such time as we have hashed shit out and come up with a decisive plan for the future of ShoutWire

I'm not into this chick of the week. Maybe manliest man next to Zeus himself of the week or something. Actually I could care less as long as you guys don't conform to other news sites. With that being said...there should be 0 censorship.

Chemo? There's a guy in Switzerland who does assisted suicides, maybe we should look into that.

Anyway, it was all rosey for me using ff for 3 years, until a few months ago, when it started dumping me back to the login page instead of just logging me in. Pissed off, I downloaded the Seamonkey suite from mozilla, and that worked fine for a bit. Until one day, I hit the bookmark, and www.shoutwire.com opens up as a completely blank page. Shit, I thought, they've all been arrested and sent to Camp Delta for crimes against good taste. I try it in ff, and sw is there, but still no login.

Then I had to use IE. Fuck you guys for making me use IE. In the butt.

J3ffalump gave me a hint on how to beat the login shit, it's an extra step, but it works(don't ask me how).

You should realise that with all the technical trouble i had, I almost left for good, and I bet more than a few have.

As for paypal, fuck that. I would like to see the Blog Section called something else, Readers Editorials or something. I think people see "Blog" and stay away from it.

Sort it out sw.

Never have any problems logging in, cookies etc on FF. only have a problem that some of the redirects don't actually load- and so the skip this button doesn't appear- then when you move away from the page and come back again it redirects you in the same manner. Vicious circle of being locked out of sw.

IMO the thing you should be most worried about is how much the amount of users and daily visitors has dropped. I think it'd be half what it was a few months ago, and somewhere around a quarter of what it was when it was on the frontpage of torrentspy.

I've stopped visiting because the only thing people ever do is bitch about how gay sw is now. SO to fix this shit up don't worry so much about the ads, worry about the content, maybe get a few feed placements on other torrent/pirate/whatever sites. If the content is top notch, people will be interested, more visitors generates more ad revenue and also more users to post interesting and diverse content.

almost everything works fine with firefox, except a few things...

1. Comments on my profile keep changing back to 10 or whatever
2. When trying to browse to the NSFW section, i have to click enter on the warning page multiple times, and most of the time it just loads back to the front of SW again.
3. The stupid picture layout. Bring back out they used to be, you know, how you could open them in a new tab?

"Don't even contemplate making this site NSFW."

QFT.

I access SW almost exclusively from work. If the whole site were NSFW, then I wouldn't be able to visit.

"Do you guys ever get a "No such user" error when trying to log in?"

That's usually the default message displayed if you entered the wrong username or password.

The owner has been notified about how dire the ad situation is, for whatever good that'll do.

I agree with dragon64. I think the biggest issue is to increase the number of viewers and users. Ads or no ads.

SW views were certainly due to take a hit when torrentspy's feed was eliminated, but the numbers are decreasing long after the fact. Are all the ads to blame?

Perhaps partially, but I don't think it's the whole story. There was an attitude the old SW had that appears to be missing, as well as many long time contributors. Lately, it seems the only time anyone around here becomes enthused about a subject, it's to bash the site. Something like that is only good until there's no one left to join the discussion.

The answer? I have no fucking idea, except to keep writing and submitting in the hope something changes.

If the dev does not fix SW FF functionality i will murder 3 mudkips.

The main problems I (r4mcock, zero, scobie, and many many others) are having are fucking ridiculous. If this were any other site i would have not had the patience to come back here. If I type "http://www.shoutwire.com" in the address bar it brings up an about blank page. If i try and access it from my RSS reader (which WAS a really handy feature) it does the same. It is an issue with this cookie: .ASPXFORMAUTH. If this single cookie is cleared SW opens fine and you only have to click the links once. but oh no, the fucking second you log in it takes about 5-10 clicks of the shoutwire logo to get to the FP. Sometimes just as many to get to a comments section and Im 100% sure that when i hit Post comment it is not going to do anything and ill have to ctrl+c this comment, refresh, paste then try and post again. Also, this makes it very difficult to ban spammers and delete their spamicles.

Quality threshold is a very simple problem to fix. Get more editors on the team, cut the ones who are slacking, have all staff, get EVERYONE on staff looking for spam at all hours and urge our community to submit some good shit

I've noticed we've had a lot of spam durring the mornings and usually i do what I can but now sometimes I simply can not delete an article due to the FF issue.

I can deal with the ads on the pages. What I can't deal with are the fucking pop unders. 8 of them. On one page. I spend more time closing them out than actually reading and commenting on the site.

Let's get some SWAG up on here. I'd love to have a SW hoodie and a pair of SW thongs/bras for my wife.

You can even give some of the shit away as a prize for things like "Most comments in a month" "Upload/Ed with most shouts in a month"...shit like that.

Yeah, paypal would be good. A buck each could generate some decent cash for the site.

But the ads...I just hate spending more time closing them out than reading the site.

^Dude, look through the editorials at the one i submitted a few days ago. If you alter your hosts file you will get NO POPUPS, NO POPUNDERS, and NO REDIRECTS. If it blocks a website or feature you want you can go into your hosts file and delete the line (for example) 127.0.0.1 www.gaycockporn.com

Roughly sixty Days from today, American voters will go to the polls to select a new President. Issues of health care, security and an unpopular war weigh heavily on the minds of US citizens.Or, do they? Several days ago, Barack Obama delivered a bombastic acceptance speech delineating the brave new course his administration would undertake. The logistics of which seemed to get lost in the rhetoric. But, it was inspiring none the less. The Democratic party was united...
