In a decade of robots, leotards, and mullets... One group stood out above all. With a defiant voice and a 10,000 watt amp Metal had arrived. Here is my top 8 metal bands that brutally raped the 80's.

metallica dropped to shit after the turn of 1990? bah, screw you guys, you can't separate piss from shit if your lives depended on it!

metallica only got better for every person they replaced! you see, after booting mustaine, and rewriting the mechanix, which obviously would later be more of a megadeth kind of song, whereas the four horsemen fits kill'em all, they got a record contract! dave mustaine got booted because the people in the band agreed, they'd be better off without!

later, cliff and the band went to sweden (why i have no idea!), and the tourbus flipped, cliff was on the wrong side of the bus! they went on and recorded and justice for all, which is alot more progessive thrash metal than any earlier release, and they even mixed the bass out just to be brutal!

by now they obviously were superstars, no?
no! they released the black album in august 1991! the album is still in billboard's top pop catalogue chart, after 840 something weeks! (yes, yes, pop pop pop, but it doesn't make the album any less heavy metal than it is).

this is getting too long, and i'd like to abruptly end by saying the later records, load through st. anger, are indeed not the same as the 80s metallica, they are the sound of a band wanting to experiment and share those experiments with their fans, for better or for worse! and now rick rubin is taking that away from the band!

i have lower expectations for the new album than positive responses to st. anger, i must admit!

Wow, I was just about to tear you to pieces for not including Pantera, luckily I looked it up first and realized they didn't release anything good until 1990. Pretty good list, should have had Megadeth but that has been addressed.

Pantera are the gods of metal though

^Pantera are from my hometown Dallas, TX. I wanted to include them so bad but even the album released in 1989 was shitty compared to all things from 1990 and on

RIP DIMEBAG!!! EVERYONE IN OHIO CAN FUCKING DIE.

@NorwegiaMog: "(yes, yes, pop pop pop, but it doesn't make the album any less heavy metal than it is)."

^ Oh come on, they became total pussies with this album. You obviously got little clue what real metal is.

I have to agree that Megadeth kicks ass and stayed true longer than Metallica. Hell, they still are true just getting too old for it now perhaps.

And funny you should say Cowboys From Hell sucked ThisisJeff. It's the only Pantera album I'll even listen to. Of course I'm not really into "brutal" metal for the most part. The rest of their albums have this ridiculous amount of anger infused into them that makes me wonder if the whole bands families were raped and murdered between Cowboys and Vulgar Display. I just can't stand it. Oh and by the way, Pantera was around since 1983 "Metal Magic" as a rock/glam metal band before they picked up Anselmo. Dimebag still kicked ass even then.

I just can't listen to anything like black/death/doom metal. What the hell crawled up these peoples asses? How about learn to vocalize so words are actually audible. Then get that shitty muddy ass bass out of your guitar so I can actually make out different notes. I want to hear some melody damn it! Even if they do have kick ass guitar the vocals totally ruin it for me.

I mainly love metal for the utter skill displayed by the bands. It's one of those genres where you have to be totally hardcore and always be pushing the limits of your abilities as a musician. I could really care less if the vocalist sounds like a pansy if the guitar in the background is going totally insane.
