This is the first part of many lists on science fiction writers and is an experiment in democracy.
Okay so there have been some complaints about my list of top ten fantasy writers. So i will now do something different.
I am starting a vote for the top ten science fiction writers, so you all can decide and will have less reason to complain.
I know people will still complain but I have decided to do it this way, so here we go.
Nominate a science fiction author you like and then if he/she gets enough nominations he/she will move on to the voting stage where you will all vote on the writers. You can nominate up to three writers so choose wisely.
There is a catch though; I want writers active form 1947 till 1993 and have written in English, Japanese or French. This way I can narrow down the nominations to a smaller number than I would otherwise get.
This isn’t to exclude writers who write in other languages, I will do more top ten lists for science fiction writers in other countries as well as earlier and later science fiction writers; I just want to make this particular list narrower.
Another thing is that you must state a reason why you are nominating the writer you are nominating should be considered one of the top ten writers in those languages I mentioned. The reason must be a good one and not something stupid.
Also please don’t nominate Douglas Adams and Frank Herbert as I am going to write some pieces on them separately. These writers are special to me and I want to write tributes to them that are separate than this list.
To star off I will nominate Isaac Asimov. The reason I have chosen him is because he was a pioneer in futurism. His stories showed people so many what ifs, things we could achieve as well as dark consequences for our actions. His work has influenced many since the days when science fiction was young and living in the pulps. He breathed new life into concepts such as robotics which influenced engineers and science fiction writers alike. He also worked to make science more accessible to casual readers so they would be interested in learning more. He was interested in helping society see its limits and moving beyond them, and so I nominate Isaac Asimov as one of the top ten science fiction writers in the English, Japanese, or French language.
The nominations end four days after the blog is promoted, so hurry uo and nominate.
