Some British army weapons are finding their way into the hands of criminal gangs - and a former Royal Military Police investigator believes they may be ill-equipped to stop it.

@ Jeff

Soldiers and ex-soldiers are stealing them to supply gangs at home after leaving war zones.

As for ceasing to exist, I think Britain still produces it's own weapons for its armed forces, such as the Lee Enfield.

I realise Jeff wasn't being entirly serious, but....

"[a] new study suggests the use of handguns in crime rose by 40% in the two years after the weapons were banned." The crime rates didn't stop there. AsBBC reports in 2003, "Gun crime has risen by 35% in a year, new Home Office figures show. There were 9,974 incidents involving firearms in the 12 months to April 2002 - a rise from 7,362 over the previous year."

@flib, I was being entirely sarcastic and this an issue i feel very proactive about.

Very good statistic r4mcock. Thanks for posting that in here.

If you disarm the law-abiding, honest citizens who would actually think and abide(2nd word is very important here) by the law against any firearm, who will stop those who care nothing about laws? The thugs who live on a day-to-day basis do not care if they go to jail tommorow or they do care about their very near future and will use any means necessary to achieve "success".

How can any rational, sane person say "I am glad england has outlawed guns" when you have YOUR OWN MILITARY supplying extremely large quantities of assault weapons to criminals. If the guns were regulated and not outlawed there would not be the demand and the corrupted military officials would never have the profitable insight to delve into the illegal arms trade so deeply. Also, how can you sit there and feel safe knowing that any fucking criminal off the streets can go get a gun any time he wants. ANY TIME. You seriously think a criminal cares that he is carrying around something illegal? He cares just as much as I give a fuck about smoking and buying weed which is illegal.

Article on "who carries these guns"

References a "15" year old (it is assumed he is lying about his age to recieve more lenient punishment)

Timy Babamuboni, who was aged 15, swore on the Bible he was not the boy in the footage, but he was shown to be a liar and was later convicted of the manslaughter of a woman shot dead as she held a baby at a christening party in south London."

Well, as if manslaughter for killing a woman holding a baby who was just christened isnt a fucking issue in itself... who was there to stop this teenager with a gun? the police? HELL NO. An armed civilian who had received a CHL (concealed handgun license) and been trained and taken hours and hours of gun safety courses? Nope. Your retarded pussy parliament banned guns. So law abiding citizens obeyed the law and gave up their right to bear arms. While a fucking heartless coward who cares NOTHING for your laws murdered a woman holding a baby in cold blood.

People who think they will 100% absolutely never have to face down a criminal holding them at gunpoint are seriously deluded or live in an extremely isolated area. Sure in probability, it wont happen. However you read the news reports every day of people killed by a gang of attackers, murdered by a firearm, or held up for their money at gunpoint by a pathetic low-life. How will you protect yourself Britain?

I have to say I whole heartedly agree Jeff. However I don't believe that the unbanning of firearms will achieve anything positive now, perhaps only exacerbate the situation.

Before the law was imposed those who had handguns kept them locked in a secure cabinet and they were kept mainly for sport (I believe). It has never really been common for citizens to carry guns. It did however mean that there were strict regulations and most guns could be accounted for.

If people were once again allowed to carry firearms I do believe that gun related deaths would increase perhaps from self defence and/or through paranoia. This would i'm sure result in some "law abiding" citizen ending up in jail.

Sadly I think this can now only be solved through the presence of a stronger police presence and a stricter penalisation for firearm related offences.

-on a different note, my shoutwire page has become rather dodgy; firstly i now have to delete my cookies before coming on (i know this is a common problem, but its only just started with me) it also takes four attempts before i can actually sign on / post comment.

Britain needs to up the police force and require the police to carry handguns and have instant access to assualt rifles (not enfields tho, you brits still havent figured out how to make a good assualt rifle >_<) and combat shotguns.

Dallas SWAT or Detroit SWAT needs to head overseas and teach your police force a few lessons in actually policing.

I am in the same boat as you r4m. I assume its just another FF problem. Dock and buls have brought the problem to the attention of the Dev and hopefully it will be worked on. Just know im harping them as much you probably want to because I am having the same fucking problem (along with a few other folks). one suggestion is to set your browser to allow cookies for session only for www.shoutwire.com that way you dont lose any of your other favorite websites cookies when you want to log into SW. It will just require you to log in everytime you visit shoutwire. Pain in the ass i know, but its getting worked on.

It's true that access to guns is becoming more key to police presence/enforcement, but i like to think that it has not come to needing handguns in all situations. I personally feel that would allow police an easy way out of a situation (possibly) culminating in unnecessary death(s). This leads to cases such as this:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,163466,00.html

This incident is a clear case of inexperience, you're right we need SWAT to give lessons.

As for FX problems..
Its not gonna stop me getting on, but it is a reet pain in the arse. Also sometimes when i go to open links in a new tab they link to nothing - once again a matter of repetition and clicking them again. One more thing its r4mcok not r4mcock lol.
