Yeah, he looks pretty snitchy after recanting his confession.

Either he was a snitch and cut a deal (seems unlikely considering the circumstances presented), or the prosecution has even less of a case to detain him.

How sad is it that I have to guage who the bigger liar might be?

I disagree. If I was going to snitch against Al Qaeda, I'd probably ask that the charges against me at least be dismissed with prejudice.

The charges against the 20th hijacker have been dismissed without prejudice, meaning that the US can still charge him if they get more evidence.

That means it's overwhelmingly likely that the charges were dismissed due to a fault in the case against him.

Al-Qahtani was waterboarded. MSNBC is speculating that his torture has tainted too much of the evidence for a trial. It seems like a safe bet, given how he was treated.

Or, he ratted his friends out in exchange for having his charges dropped.

You people kill me with this double standards stuff..

So the evil bush administration can just grab anyone anywhere off the street and they are sent to hidden and secret torturing facilities in Europe and Gitmo and all over the world one week..

and the next week they lack the 'evidence' to 'detain' him further??
Seriously, what evidence do they NEED, and who do they need to PROVE it to??

Hell if the powers that be so deigned it, this guy could simply 'disappear', and they could fabricate any story they wanted about how he escaped and dived into the ocean never to be seen again, or they let him go, and dont know where he is..

Pick a side.. either Bush and the American Government are an evil tyrannical administration of liars and decievers and power mongers.. or they are people capable of making mistakes but willing to fix them, as exemplified by their 'dropping' the charges against him.

Bottom line: When you and 20 of your friends get busted for something.. then after a time, the police drop YOUR charges while keeping ours and let YOU go.. you're either a Narc or a SNITCH.
Thats the street.

Oh it gets better...

Government says he provided valuable intelligence, according to this guy:

The Government is full of BS.

He has since recanted his "confession"...

And all records of the guy held by the US have been "lost"...

And he wasn't just waterboarded...

"[F]orty-eight days of severe sleep deprivation and 20-hour interrogations, forced nudity, sexual humiliation, religious humiliation, physical force, prolonged stress positions and prolonged sensory overstimulation, and threats with military dogs. The aggressive techniques, standing alone and in combination, resulted in severe physical and mental pain and suffering."

But then they wouldn't have all that "War on Terror" propaganda to prance in front of our oh-so-ignorant-citizen faces during election time, now would they?

"So the evil bush administration can just grab anyone anywhere off the street and they are sent to hidden and secret torturing facilities in Europe and Gitmo and all over the world one week."

Yes. There are currently CIA agents on trial, in absentia natch, in Italy for this exact crime.

This isn't "the street." Grow up.

and what do they gain by setting him free after his charges are dropped?
It only serves to make them look bad. The Bush administration gains nothing from this publically.. but if he finally cracked and sold out his 'brothers' the Bush Administration has a 'win' in their book.

"Yes. There are currently CIA agents on trial, in absentia natch, in Italy for this exact crime."

Normally Kinder i take your word on things like this because you are an honorable person, but the circumstances of that trial are questionable in their motives at best, and a complete waste of time otherwise. But until more details and facts of that trial are released, it only helps my argument that this administration has no reason to simply 'release' this man unless they had something to gain.

"This isn't "the street." Grow up."

The Street is REALITY. The Real world. The gritty existence. You should try visiting it once in a while.

"Or, he ratted his friends out in exchange for having his charges dropped."

Right, heard you the first time, explained why you were probably wrong. When criminals get deals, their charges are dismissed WITH prejudice. Otherwise, the deal is garbage, since the charges can be brought again. In this case, the chaarges were dismissed WITHOUT prejudice, meaning that the government currently lacks the evidence to make it's case stick.

WITH /= WITHOUT being the key point.

"Pick a side.. either Bush and the American Government are an evil tyrannical administration of liars and decievers and power mongers.. or they are people capable of making mistakes but willing to fix them, as exemplified by their 'dropping' the charges against him."

That's a fake choice. There is no monolithic "American Government" being alleged here. The Bush administration decided, on it's own, that it was now okay to torture people. They used "National Security" as their excuse, and chumps like you bought into it.

They succeeded in breaking the law because most people don't give a shit. Just because we suck doesn't make them omnipotent. They still don't have the power to make torturing false confessions out of people and then using them in trial into a new rule.

So, the confessions can't be used in trial. So, we can't convict him of anything. So, the alleged murderer of 3,000 people on 9/11 goes free without a trial.

But you don't care. You don't care about 9/11, about Al Qaeda, about keeping Americans safe from further terrorist attacks. All you care about is YOURSELF, and feeling superior to the dirty hippies makes you feel good, so you just stick your head in the sand on all this shit.

"and what do they gain by setting him free after his charges are dropped?
It only serves to make them look bad."

There are a few hundred other detainees in Guantanamo who are also being held without charges who are more than likely not guilty of anything, that offer an even larger embarrassment for the Bush Admin. I figure they're letting them slowly trickle out so as to save themselves further embarrassment.

"Normally Kinder i take your word on things like this because you are an honorable person"

Why thank you. Despite the fact that we disagree on most everything I've always liked you. You don't swear in your rebuttals like some petulant child and I have always appreciated that. Back on topic...

"the circumstances of that trial are questionable in their motives at best"

From what I understand of the case we apprehended a suspect that was being surveilled by the Italian authorities. We invaded their turf and took their suspect. We did not inform them of our intentions and we did not keep them in the loop as to what we intended to do with him. We eventually flew the guy to Egypt and let them "handle" him. We essentially collapsed the entire case against the guy the Italians had been building. So they're a little pissed.

As for "the streets" you're probably right. I've lived a cushy life thus far and am probably ignorant on a great deal of things.

Up with bikes. Bicycles are the greatest invention since the wheel. Really, there are 2 wheels, making them doubly as good. The downside to bicycling is dealing with idiots in automobiles. White knuckled, bleary eyed buffoons in a hurry to go nowhere. Heads up during a collision, there’s no contest between a bike and a car, the car wins. The only upside is perhaps the opportunity to be thrown headfirst through the dumbfuck’s windshield and then be able in your blood...
