The Tory government announced a 20-year, multibillion-dollar plan to strengthen Canada's military, which includes the purchase of new aircraft, armoured vehicles, ships and helicopters, and a goal to expand the Forces to 100,000.

What a bunch of bullshit waste of money! We do this to be taken seriously? Japan is taken very seriously on a global scale, not due to military but its economy. Why not take that military spending and invest it in public education, technological research and develoment or perhaps creating industry in some of our poorer provinces.

We see what increased military spending did to our neighbours down south, yet we do the same frickin thing.

We need all of the above. Sorry DirtyBlack, but if you don't think we need this stuff, then you might want to talk to the Navy / Coast Guard personnel who risk their lives in 40 year-old helicopters, the rusting hulks we call Coast Guard ships, etc.

Ok, I agree with you half way. I think it is required to have up to date equipment to handle our own internal matters such as disaster relief and costal security. But to increase spending to be taken seriously internationally is a joke. Respect can be earned by more than the size of your gun.

I have to agree with this one. Our military could use a little refurbishing. When the official squadron shoulder patch for our Sea King pilots reads 'Flying Yesterdays Aircraft, Tomorrow' you know there is a problem. However, doing it to be 'taken seriously' is utterly moronic.

What's the big deal, your military is just updateing their equipment..It's best to do it now, when you have a bit of extra cash.

We have lots of extra cash. We also have a Prime Minister who likes teabags from GWB.

It is in our best interests to upgrade, but what is done with our troops is the problem. From that link, it shows many Islamophobes content to follow Harper's ugly path. That is not in the best interests of the country and only follows the ridiculous idea that 'might is right'.

Harper is the biggest pussy ever. He's using our military to look like the big dick swinger when he's more closely related to Bush's left nut.

The US boosted thier military spending when they had a bit of extra cash. How are they doing now?

Waste of money. Not only are they wasting billions by buying overpriced planes, but they're buying it from Boeing, an american compagny already swimming in money, while we have one of the greatest aeronaval industry in the world.

Shame on you Harper. This plan has nothing to do with our security or our soldier's welfare. It has to do with your fucking lobbysts and the motherfuckers who fund your corrupt ass to Ottawa.
