I always thought Simon Cowell was a discerning no shit kinda guy but seeing his response to that made me lose all respect for him. I believe his quote was it sounded like "a dying cat", but if he cant recognise the beautiful tonality and timbre behind that then he clearly knows fuck all about music.

Mike, Simon Cowell is a douche.
He didn't like the sound it made, and completely ignored the talent the kid has.

Ew. I'm discussing idol stuff. Carry on.

I've heard people playing the saw before, it's an incredibly hard "instrument" to master, and can sound bloody horrible when played badly. However, in the right hands, as it is here, it's capable of producing some beautiful, haunting tones.

That guy makes money from music by sticking to what has been done a million times before by people who have no other talent than to recognise what is safely within mainstream limits. And when it comes to real musicality, that talent isn't an awful lot.

Nevertheless I both have to agree and disagree with the guy.

I disagree for the fact that he bashed way too early, it was not his appreciation of musical skill that made him push the button but his stereotypical thinking of 'oh this is not a hot girl shaking her ass on a computer beat'.

I have to agree though that it did sound quite out of tune sometimes and that's not what you want to hear. The player is quite talented though and I bet he's a great violin player already. But it's just very hard to get a decent sound out of something that is not meant to be played as a musical instrument. Heck, it is often difficult enough to get the right sound out of something that IS meant as a musical instrument.

Simon needs a punch, either that or he's with the record companies.

@Immaculate1

Probably just anxiousness causing the out of tune bits.

So because he remains within mainstream music he no longer knows what he's doing? I'd honestly like to see any one of us acheive what he has. I don't like most of the music he has been involved in, but you can't deny he does it well.

The saw was awful. He was out of tune on several occasions and at points it didn't sound like the song he was meant to be playing.

@ Mike, calling it just 'mainstream' is not the proper term, what he does is taking 'the safe route' over and over again. People like him are the reason all modern day pop music sounds the same and as dull and uninventive as you can get. Thanks to people like him the days of great bands like Queen, The Stones, Genesis, The Doors or Deep Purple are over and we are now bombarded with Britney Spears's, Christina Aguileras and Justin Timberlakes

@otester

"Probably just anxiousness causing the out of tune bits."

Probably, yeah. That's why I wouldn't judge him so harshly and fast without thinking like that guy did, but wait and see how he develops his piece.

http://westsounds.com claims to have a simply enormous catalog - over 200,000 albums online. This seemingly extensive catalog contains not just the latest and greatest, but also older tracks too - which lots of people (like me) are shopping for. I have had a tendency to lose CD's over the years, so this is a good way for me to reclaim (cheaply) the music I've already bought in the past.

Dear Asshole Programmers,Hi, it's us. The consumers you love to fuck over and over again. There is a growing epidemic in the great world of computers that's expanding by leaps and bounds. It's causing innocent computer users, worldwide, to develop heart conditions from constantly burning effigies and clinching their fists as they disable annoying background processes they did not authorize to run, at all.This crap needs to stop. I can almost understand the logic...
