Medical Know-How Raises Suicide Risk For Doctors

There's a grim, rarely talked-about twist to all that medical know-how doctors learn to save lives: It makes them especially good at ending their own. An estimated 300 to 400 U.S. doctors kill themselves each year — a suicide rate thought to be higher than in the general population, although exact figures are hard to come by.

Fine with me. It just goes to show. Doctors must really want to die if they attempt suicide since it will most likely be successful. Better that then some emo cry for help half ass bullshit.

You either want to die or you don't. If the latter, then don't fucking attempt suicide. If you do, then get the job done right like a man.

Any emo is an automatic FAIL as they have not yet succeeded in ending their own miserable existence.

I am available at no cost to rectify this situation should they need help in this area.

And doctors in the UK, according to research, are the most likely to be alcoholics. Maybe there is a link there somewhere?

I think the title of the article is very miss-leading. It seems to imply that because you know how to save lives, you are more likely to commit suicide. The "gist" of the article states that if you know how to save lives, you are more likely to *succeed* in committing suicide, as you have a more intimate knowledge of how to go about it.

It's too bad that doctors do not have a system in place to help them deal with their grief. They are human too, but their culture demands that they show no emotion. I can't conceive of a doctor with absolutely no empathy for their patients. I can't imagine the suffering they must bear witness to, along with the sometimes inability to alleviate it, or save some people's lives. It's like filling a balloon. Eventually it will pop if the filling isn't stopped.
