I don't think I saw a single case of female circumcision in Jordan. It is also almost unheard of in Palestine, Syria, Lebanon. I never even met a person that is a proponent of this barbaric procedure. But if I do s/he is going to end up heavily injured on the ground. It seems Egypt has it bad.

It would be foolish though to not think that people would use the sway of religion to try and justify it.

Seems like an old article... It even extensively quotes some book from the 80s.

I know that since then, Egypt has taken a lot of steps to stamp out female circumcision... IIRC, in 1995 they outlawed it and started joint programs with the local Muslim clerics to condemn and actively eradicate the practice in rural areas.

Best way to deal with any region of the world that is still practicing this is through diplomacy, education, and alternatives. Even though the very idea may cause so much anger that we'd like to "put a boot up their ass!"

Man that is fucked up... I read an article that in Africa somewhere, can't quite think where, that the guys won't even look at the girl if this wasn't performed on her, shoot i wouldn't touch her if it was (i know it's not her fault but still).....

Sick custom that should not exist in the modern world. Seems to be practiced almost entirely in Africa.

It seems it is very difficult to educate people as most see male circumcision is totally ok.

It was not a popular procedure for Jewish people until the early fifties when (Jewish) doctors realised they could charge a lot of money for a very simple operation without having to pay for anesthetic or cover many costs.

So in short, it's ok to slice and dice a guys bits but not a girls?

^Depends on the reason. The female circumcision destroys her sexuality (and done for that reason)... as the man's it does not.
