If you thought America was a republic or a democracy, you're wrong. Things are only going to get worse. Here's why...
America has always been, and will always be a two tiered theocratic oligarchy. This means that a small group of the rich religious upper class make the decisions of the rest of the people. It’s the reason congress and the electoral college were created; because our founding fathers felt we were too stupid to make the decisions of the country. Sadly, they were right.
Even worse, it’s not going to change any time soon. In fact, it can’t change. Here’s why:
1.) Terrorism isn’t going to go away. The official definition of terrorism is “any act that endangers human lives and is a violation of state or federal laws.” Under this definition, speeding can technically be classified as terrorism. Under the patriot act, a speeder charged with terrorism can then be held in prison for an indefinite amount of time and denied due process. I’m not saying our government would do this (yet), but the legal backing exists that would allow them to if they wanted to. That alone should scare the piss out of any true patriot.
2.) As long as terrorism poses a threat to our “safety” the government will continue to take away freedoms for the reason of protection. Americans would rather be safe than free, and we’re willing to give up anything to keep the illusion of being safe. After all, the only people who object to illegal searches are those who have something to hide right?
3.) As long as we’re presented with either or choices, we’ll continue to swim with the rest of the fish into the net. After all, it’s a big lonely ocean when you swim it alone. I’m talking about the “you’re either with your country or against it” attitude or the ever popular “would you rather live in China?” argument. Patriotism does not mean blindly following one’s government; sadly this belief is slow to catch on.
4.) Americans don’t give a damn. Well, that’s not all true; some of us give a damn but we're too small a minority to make a difference. As long as they have jobs to go to and American Idols to vote for, most Americans can’t be bothered care about what their government is doing. History's revolutions only occur when the people are starving or poor.
5.) Even if they did care, there’s not much they could do about it anyway. America’s military is way too strong for a revolution to work. In the old days, both the colonists and the British had the same caliber weapons. Today’s “legal” weapons wouldn’t stand a chance, even if a majority of citizens decided to revolt.
All of the pieces are in place for America's slide into total control by the upper class, and there really isn't much that anybody can do about it. But hey, it could be worse. We could be living in China.
