A show that starts with such great promise soon took a nose dive worse then when Twin Peaks was on the air.

I still think Lost is a great show.
The problem with Lost, as with other great shows like Dead Like Me, Dexter (the showtime version, not the tamed NBC version), Journeyman, battlestar galactica and Jericho was that these shows are very exciting in the very beginning when we are getting introduced to the setting, the characters, and the storytelling method.. but as time goes on and we become accustomed to the show's characters, we sorta lose.. something with familiarity.

See thats what British TV does so amazingly well in most cases (particularly sitcoms) - British series typically run for 2 or maybe 2 seasons, they quit while the show is at its peak, whereas American networks are determined to milk it for all its worth.... thats why Futurama got cancelled, cos it was getting steadily closer to The Simpsons viewing figures, but The Simpsons had higher ad revenue and brand value.

Its sort of the like a 'BBC effect'... because the BBC is funded by the taxpayer, it has no reason to keep pushing stuff for Ad revenue.

Best example: The Office (the original, not the shitty American rip off) ran for 2 seasons. The American version is currently in pre production of its FIFTH season.

I think it's gotten better actually. One of the few good shows on today.
Now go back to watching reality tv or whatever the fuck you watch.

<quote="airdudei"> the show seems to be too smart for this guy. It looks like he is the one going nowhere in this article than me.
To both of you nimrods, I understand the show perfectly, it's just the fact that it's fucking stupid. 17 minutes of the show they spend looking at each other. another 15 is fashbacks, and the rest is running in the jungle.

Obviously here, you are a very visual person. When you see something like Lost all you see are people running through the jungle and looking at each other. That's fine, enjoy that. There are plenty of shows that are visually stimulating. But that's not what Lost is about. You fail to mention what the characters are saying to each other when they do as much staring as you say they do.

As someone who's writing seems to be at least a small part in their lives, a person would think that yourself LifeRiot, could appreciate the kind of dialogue they have, and some of the emotions they express.

That might sound real friggin' queer, but I'm saying that you are looking for something else entirely from what the show is about.

If it's not your style, that's cool, but you don't have to go saying it sucks.

Peace

@ Capt

I'm not saying the show sucks, hence while I still watch it. I own the first 3 dvds. Everyone makes fun of stuff they like. I merely roast Lost.

I will then...LOST....sucks.
Sucks like a whore jonesing for a bump of coke.
Tried to get into the first season...tried to get into Hero's first season. Totally "lost" interest in both, even before the first seasons were over.
They seemed schizophrenic, disjointed and just too big.
Put them into mini-series format...wrap up a good story line. If succesful? Start running a series.
It is like too much at once...writing in foreshadowing and clues for a future that may not even exist. Gnomesayin'?

X-Files was able to pull it off correctly. You pepper in big story line episodes between other side stories that get wrapped up within the hour.

I can't stand Jack. For someone who is very educated he sure does some stupid shit without thinking it through. I mean common, if you were a top surgeon wouldn't you have the brains to stop and think of the options before making a decision instead of running off making some half brained choice. I hate Jack with a passion.

Yeah, X-files was a brilliant show. I wonder how they are gonna do the new movie and not mention the bigger plot line and just stay to the Monster of the week plot.

Just so everyone is clear, at the end of season 3 the Lost producers negotiated a contract with ABC extending the show for 3 more seasons consisting of 16 episodes each. That means there were suppose to be 48 episodes of Lost remaining. Everything was honky-dory until the writers strike occurred. Now there will be 13 episodes for season 4 (8 have aired with 5 remaining), and the other 35 episodes will be split over Seasons 5 and 6. So Lost will be finished at the end of Season 6 (ie: 2010). Now that the writers know when the show will end, they have stated that all storylines will be concluded and all questions answered over the next 3 seasons. In addition, the writers already have everything mapped out for the story and all the characters, and that is why we now have futureflashes.

I understand your frustrations with some of the things you mentioned in the editorial, but I believe the acting and the direction more than make up for those minor nuances. There hasn't been a Lost episode yet that doesn't provide entertainment of the highest quality. The best thing about this show is how well it can tell a story about so many characters no matter how absurd the story is. I mean Desmond travelling through time is kind of cheesy, but the way they went about doing it was superb.

By the way, we will find out at the end of this season who was in the casket at the end of season 3.
