I personally think that at the age of 13, the child should be allowed to decide if they like their name, and then once again at the age of 18 just in case they were stupid and picked a shitty name.

If they have a bad name, or one that has caused them grief, they may change it to something they like a bit more, with some parental approval and within the social norms (Cleo Toris, for instance, may not fly). They may also choose to beat their mother and/or father (though its doubtful he was involved with something so stupid) senseless for being too retarded to have kids in the first place.

I haven't seen any confirmation of this story. I don't see why anyone thinks it's true.

I also find it disturbing that so many people are so eager to tell parents what they may name their children. For generations, children with relatively common names like Dick and Gay have been the targets of bullying and teasing. Somehow, they find a way to get through their childhoods. And nobody wants to bar parents from using those names. They only want to tell black parents what they may name their children.
