A grandfather who wanted to end his life built himself a gun-toting robot with plans downloaded from the Internet and used it to kill himself. The bizarre suicide machine was set up to remotely fire a .22 semi- automatic pistol - and when the 81-year-old man activated it he was hit several times in the head.

I was wondering the same. I thought at first it was to preserve his body, but it said he shot himself in the head. Maybe he was just crazy?

hahah! you really think he killed himself? you fool. Judgement Day has begun. this is just a very poor attempt to cover up his suicide. If I were you I'd start breaking every computer you see, shortly after I post this comment to warn all the other humans I will be destroying this computer with an axe.

His relatives sound like complete arseholes. Trying to pack him off to an old peoples home ffs. He can't be that bad if he has the capacity to build a suicide machine.

I find myself concurring with ThisisJeff. The robot wars have begun and so far it looks to be Robots - 1, Mankind - .5 (Since he was trying to kill himself, he gets half credit.)

Well suicide has a religious stigma associated with it. Perhaps since the "robot" killed him, it wouldn't count as suicide in some kind of weird religious technicality.

Still, .22 to the head is a sure fire way to die, the bullet enters and doesn't exit. It just bounces around in the skull scrambling your brains.

Yeah, i can see that happening.

But still, calling the thing a robot? Isn't a mere extension to the trigger?
