May god damn this ad to the depths hell. We need to make it extremely apparent to all that everyone here HATES the video advertisement.
Well it seems the video advertisement is the straw that broke the camels back. Said camel then collapsed into a pitiful heap and is now dying of thirst. From many regular users’ and staff’s perspective the only way to revive said camel is to rid Shoutwire of this annoying advertisement (or maybe a nice dinner at Outback Steakhouse would do the trick… oh god damn it got to me too!!). I believe everyone here now knows why this ad must be removed by Shoutwire’s owners. However, do the owners of this website really understand the damage the ad caused? I personally do not believe they do.
I do not even need to go into vague details about why the ad is detrimental to the future of the Shoutwire community. My personal qualm with ad is the flagrant disregard to those who access the site from work. Some Shoutwire users might not have the option to install firefox and adblock on a company owned computer. I had to do a little hx0ring myself to be able install firefox with adblock myself but Imagine it could be hell if you are running on something similar to a Novell client. I have had to explain to co-workers a few times I do not frequent the outback steakhouse homepage and yes I swear to god I am working! Also, this is a personal example of how I know the ad is clearly harming Shoutwire. I recently told a friend of mine, who would love the site, to check it out and register a username so he could also comment and submit articles himself. He was instantly turned off from the site by the annoying as fuck ad on the front page. Without a personal acquaintance to explain to him that the ad can be blocked and that the content of the site was much more in depth than the initial impression he received, I know he would have just shrugged the website off. How many times do you think this same scenario has happened and unfortunately there was no one there convince them to at least try it out? Realistically, I figure the number to be in the low hundreds.
As outlined in Bulshoy’s editorial; the only way we will see a change is if everyone who values the benefits Shoutwire gets up off their asses and works to create change. Now I know a lot of you really do not like to get up off your ass physically (hey, I am right there with ya) but hardly any physical effort is required on your part! People of Shoutwire let your voices be heard by shouting all of the latest anti-video ad editorials and blogs. Simply by having a clear anti-ad sentiment on the front page side-by-side with that god awful bullshit, we might change the minds of some unregistered users to stick around I urge any and all who read this to send an email to Bulshoy with your views and grievances with the video advertisement. Also, please stick around and man the front lines together. The owners need to see that they have a dedicated user base that is capable of bringing in more users and generating revenue from the traffic. If they see this is possible perhaps they wont rely on quick, easy, Scrooge McDuck like ways of collecting money. If you are fed up with the bullshit protest to the best of your ability and wait for the change that is inevitable.
One more little thing: to those of you who might be a new user or you simply have never used Firefox’s adblock add-on. I did write an informative blog with steps for easily removing the ad. The link is: http://www.shoutwire.com/ecomments/full/134963/Easy_Outback_Removal_
