Prime Minister Harper refused to bail out Canada's ailing auto industry. He told Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty "Look, I operate at the macro level. We'll cut taxes, offer some regional incentives, but we're not prepared to take it one step down." Good on you, Harper.

That's an interesting point of view: no plan to boost your industry, which will stagger your economy.

"Ford wants to build a fuel-efficient V8 engine at the plant, which was closed in November as part of a massive restructuring the second-largest Detroit auto maker is undertaking after years of market share losses."

I think this line says it all about Ford's understanding of the market. Consumers are looking at V8s right now like it's leprosy. The raise in oil prices, and Ford building the biggest most inneficient vehicles ever led to their own downfall and now they want the government to bail them out.

The job creation would be extremely beneficial, but it's a waste to try and promote something no one wants or can barely afford to drive.

That's the problem with automakers in North America. Ever since the 60's, they've had the bigger is better mentality and have pretty much refused to adapt or change with the times. Hence, the Japanese and other Asian automakers, who actually looked at what consumers want and invested more in efficiency than what looks pretty, have thoroughly owned them in the last 10-15 years.

Now they want the government to bail them out for their own fuck ups. Sad really.

Good on Harper. Let the free market determine who survives. I'm sick of seeing the east getting all the cash for celebrations and industry bailouts... *cough* Quebec and Ontario *cough* Seems I've got a cold.

Although I wouldn't imagine Canadian industry to be in such a sorry state as US, you guys can probably benefit from a similar plan that would help us out a ton. Get the government to fund a maglev east-west rail line with connections to the north.

Car factories can build the parts, people will get jobs which will help the local economies flourish. Additionally goods will reach ports a lot quicker, and less gas will be used in transport. Goods will be much cheaper leading to more consumption.

As an added bonus, after you guys get it done people here will look north and wonder why we're so stupid that we can't have Healthcare and maglev trains like Canada.

FidoMeet Joe Sixpack
Howdy everybody, Joe Sixpack here. I never met you all before, but I was having some pops last night with my bud Fido and he said if I wrote this down, he’d fix up the spellun’ and put it on the internet. He’s mostly full of shit, but I did it anyway. This is about Thursday night. The wife had the kids at football practice and going by her sister’s and I was home tipping back some cold ones and looking for something to watch on TV. I seen the debate thing was on b...

oMissPixyoParents, Stop Dressing Your Daughters Like Sluts
One of the most disturbing trends in modern times has to do with the sliding scale of what's the appropriate standard for children's clothing. ShoutWire's HockeyGod once wrote an awesome editorial detailing an experience that involved chili dogs and teens at a mall wearing belly exposing, pants-low outfits. You've seen these types of get-ups when visiting the mall, I'm sure. There are certain lines of clothing designed to exploit a teenager's desire to mimic slutty...
