Hi pplzk. Yes, women are still meant to be accompanied by a male family members when travelling within the Kingdom, or outside. It is strictly forbidden to travel any other way, without special permission.

I've always wondered how Saudi Arabians feel about the Bush family being so buddy buddy with Saudi royals. Maybe that's too big a question to answer in the comments...I'd read a whole article on it, and I bet a lot of others would too.

Anyway, looking forward to a new perspective on SW.

Good luck, sounds interesting. How do they stereotype Americans (are you American)? And you say you aren't afraid of getting beheaded?

Maybe I should know this, but........what exactly is the reason behind women not being allowed to travel alone? Is it political, or religious?

It's not only women, if your a man and have long hair or wearing shorts that isn't long enough to cover your knees and downward you are at risk of being harassed by police or even worse.. The "Hayah"

They Hayah are like the religious police; they have government support and have permission to do just about anything to you. They patrol the inner city in vans and scout for anything that is not according to or violating the laws Islam.

For example; if it's prayer time and you happen to be walking on the street they have a right to stop you and take any form of ID you have and hold it with them until you sign some document saying that you wont do It again, or even worse they might take you to a holding cell and keep you there over night, if you have long hair they will gladly shave it off and send you home. And you wouldn't be able to do squat about it. No protest no law suite no lawyers no nothing.

Some say they do well for the community by maintaining order in a religious way, but I've lived long enough in Saudi to know that they are just a bunch of heavily bearded religious fanatics who support anything that's anti-American , and who are quite frankly above the law.

But hey; if your rich and have connections you don't need to worry because the justice system there is so corrupt that you can get away with a lot of things.

Personally I believe the heart of the War starts in Saudi Arabia. If it were not for their oil they would have been a primary target after 9-11.

The current line of thinking is if America is hit with a nuclear devise during a terrorist attack, Mecca will be target numero uno as a response. I guess that would kinda screw up the Islamic Hajj, the Pilgrimage to Mecca, since it would be to radioactive for a few thousand years. Muslims believe that Mecca can not be harmed. It is protected by allah. Maybe we'll see?

FidoMeet Joe Sixpack
Howdy everybody, Joe Sixpack here. I never met you all before, but I was having some pops last night with my bud Fido and he said if I wrote this down, he’d fix up the spellun’ and put it on the internet. He’s mostly full of shit, but I did it anyway. This is about Thursday night. The wife had the kids at football practice and going by her sister’s and I was home tipping back some cold ones and looking for something to watch on TV. I seen the debate thing was on b...

As we know, everyone in Washington DC are assholes of varying degree. Last week we called Sarah Palin out for being a dumb cunt and an asshole. And that's coming from me. If you're actually voting for Palin, people named cadpig, you're a dumb asshole enabler. Palin is worthless and would have the US on a road to destruction that would involve hurting our allies too. What's even more disturbing than people who watched Palin on Katie Couric wanting to vote for her ...
