I once thought "virgin mac user" was redundant, now I'm considering buying one. Got some advice for me?

PC is the platform, if you are that concerned about reliability go Linux, unless you enjoy paying 3 to 4 thousand every time you need to upgrade.

my advice, the apple so called geniuses at ehe mac bars can go over somethings with you and even transfer you old file sform apc to your new mac. If you are going to be mainly typing stuff in word/excel and surfing the internet with maybe some light photoshop than I'd recommend a macbook not the pro models as they are meant for more higher usage stuff like video editing etc. Or, even an Imac are nice.

Go in the store, tell the sales guy to bug off and play with the computers yourself and than if you got questions ask them. P.S. as of 6PM EST time the new OS 10.5 called Leopard will be out. See if you like it and try it out!

Good luck

buying a mac is like shooting yourself in the foot. There is nothing a mac can do better then a properly configured Pc, or laptop. Why pay extra money for a crippled piece of hardware?

I think that microsoft office would be the best choice, as there are sometimes compatibility issues between iwork application files such as text documents and powerpoints from keynote. The office applications on a mac work just as well as those on a PC.

^Apparently you know nothing about color management and color profiles for graphics, photography, and print work. Macs>PC in that field.

I use both Mac and PC, and prefer PC hands down. If you intend to use a Mac for what it's designed for (Graphics, Video Editing, Music Composition), I'd recommend buying an Imac, or find a newer model G4 before they introduced the G5. However, if you're looking for a computer to surf the internet and be able to use the majority of software, stick with a computer that's intended to do it. You might say that a Mac can support Windows so you can do everything else that OSX doesn't support. Instead, why not just buy a computer with Windows on it instead? There's no need to pay that extra dollar for an operating system that's locked down and can only be truly controlled if you are knowledgeable in unix.

I say that you think long and hard about whether or not you really need a Mac. Don't waste your money on a computer that you won't use the potential of just because "They Just Work". Just because your Dell crashed, doesn't mean that PC's are ticking time bombs waiting to melt down and ruin your files.

Dear Asshole Programmers,Hi, it's us. The consumers you love to fuck over and over again. There is a growing epidemic in the great world of computers that's expanding by leaps and bounds. It's causing innocent computer users, worldwide, to develop heart conditions from constantly burning effigies and clinching their fists as they disable annoying background processes they did not authorize to run, at all. This crap needs to stop. I can almost understand the logic...
