Man since Torrentspy started blocking US users, I bet Shoutwire Traffic has just been on a downward spiral.

The ad redirects suck, the load time sucks and that click to see article button is retarded.

Lately I've been frequenting digg, at least that page loads quickly and doesn't have ridiculous adds.

Yeah even with adblock plus that doesnt get rid of the pop unders or the slow load time not to mention the redirects, this is ridiculous...I have stuck with this site through thick and thin like alot of you I don't comment alot but I read alot and I have always enjoyed it. When visiting this site makes my blood pressure rise it is time for a change....with that being said I have made my mind up in finding an alternative to all the weird news and good editorials I will check back from time to time to see if things have changed hopefully they will. I dont think the new owners realize it but they are running this damn site inot the ground before long there wont be anymore visitors....I mean look today they lost one "me" I know that doesnt sound like alot but when people get fed up they will simply stop visiting....good luck guys it was fun while it lasted...

Look at the rankings for 2006 and compare it to 2007, it's been going down the shitter since they had that "No political articles" drive a year ago.

Another thing about the "click here to read article": it makes editing much more difficult. I can no longer see (at a glance) what an article's source is. Editing takes twice as long now.

Couldn't agree more bulshoy. Those Romanian bastards need to go down the toilet along with whoever keeps coming up with these horrible 'additions' to the site.

First, I want to apologize for the massive downtime yesterday that occurred without warning to you folks. If you are having a recurring annoyance on the site, or something you think needs to be changed, please email me:

dockwats0@gmail.com

As for trends, traffic and ranking have actually improved and highest for a long time (maybe ever) until yesterday, with the site being down for a full 24 hours plus and then amazingly slow at others.

For that, we fully apologize that happened without warning to everyone.

As for submission policy, there is a non-detailed write-up on blog and there is also an active content management policy to ensure people aren't over-submitting personal content.

It is in order, and I'll again be seeing to it that staff is informed of it and actually employs it, so you won't have to drudge through heaps of sucky-non news and un-interesting content.

The ads and redirects should be taken care of very soon. I think we'll all be happy for that.

Expect lags and gags for the site this week as some server changes are being made, in addition to reorganization. Hopefully at the end of this, you'll find the speed, lack of redirects and features to your liking.

Another thing to discuss is your own blog section. We'd like to expand it to feature you guys more and bring more attention to stuff you write/embed, as well as perhaps provide "rewards" ;) for top writers.

If you're interested, swing by the User Blogs sections and submit some entries, and give feedback on features you would like to see in Your Blog area. It's a step in giving your more editorial control in content topic and discussions on the site.

The more you guys use, share, and give feedback, the better we can customize to your preferences.

If there are any other annoyances, please give me feedback at the email I listed above as well.

Thanks.

Guys, who is still getting the redirect ads, and how frequently are you getting them? If they are a huge problem for you, I've already posted instructions on how you can deal with them (In the Ad Redirects Need to Fuck Off article). You can filter the main server that the adds come from to prevent the script from running. I've done some experimenting on if it's working or not (on three seperate occasions I've sat and clicked SW links for a solid 10 minutes and haven't seen a redirect).

@bulshoy
"and I've been repeating this to users who enquire."
- *wispering* PSSSSST! It's spelled inquire. Like inquiry.

Part of the slow loading times is actually the ads themselves. The site is coded so that the ads load before any content does (click a SW link, look at the status bar at the bottom of your window- considering you're using IE or FF- and you can see what sites are loading content), and I've noticed most hangups occur on adserve sites. There needs to be some serious work done on the main site coding, because if even on of the advertising servers are experiencing slowdown or is just plain not working correctly, the page content won't load. If the site owners refuse to budge on a lot of these ads, then can you please find a way to have the pages load the site content first, and the advertisements second. Shoutwire has always existed for its users, the site content needs to come first, and the owners would do fucking-well to remember that; else there won't be a site left.

Well I have never gotten one of those redirects, and this page loaded in 23 seconds, too long but not as bad as some people are saying.

If I was getting these redirects and pages were taking 3 min to load I would be gone so quickly.

EDIT: ^ Your right, when I load Shoutwire with IE it takes a good 2-3 minutes.

"I've already posted instructions on how you can deal with them" (redirect ads)

Thanks, but I'm not about to spend any time troubleshooting for a better experience at Shoutwire. Not my job.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only person one step away from jumping this sinking ship.

Oh, and yes, bulshoy, you should get rid of the "Romanian Mafia"... not that it will even begin to heal this site's gaping wounds, of course.

"Look at the rankings for 2006 and compare it to 2007, it's been going down the shitter since they had that "No political articles" drive a year ago."

Agreed. Hate to say we told you so...

For what it's worth, it does seem much faster today, but only when compared to 3-5 minute load time.

FidoFiggering Out Man Shit
There seem to be questions about the qualities that define a man. Half the world’s population carry the designation but apparently, there are degrees of the condition still to be qualified. Rather than make a list and argue over things a man should or shouldn’t do, I’d rather cite examples of manly ideals in a Hollywood context in order to provide more identifiable images. In loose chronological order, I’ll begin with Errol Flynn, ever the reluctant warrior and perf...

SteelyDanThe Best Fucking Daily Show Episode Ever
Last week we looked at Jon Stewart calling out some of the biggest media assholes and their spinning of the truth. It was a sweet moment and if you missed it, you can check that out here.Still smarting over the feeling of vindication after watching that last video, I was shocked when a friend sent me the link to these videos. Following what was supposed to be their night and moment of glory, Stewart simply beat down the GOP political machine. As always with stuff...
