Some may argue that as much goodness couldn't even be found on Hugh Heffner and Friends Naughty Island Adventure.
Hey folks, how's it going? Hopefully everyone is having a good start of the week, as we get the Monday stench off and edge closer and closer to another weekend.
In my two years of being ShoutWire admin, I don't think an upcoming week has held so much potential goodness for the site. Here are a few things that are being worked on and planned out. This is also one of those articles where I'd like to hear feedback from you guys, as well as annoyances you've found with the site you'd like us to look at.
Before we look at some new features, I did want to say we realize the site can be hella slow at times, which can be hair ripping-ly annoying. As work progresses on the site in addition to some other things, that will subside and you can browse ShoutWire far more quickly.
The Most Damn Awesome Podcast, EverAs you may recall, Zero and I have been planning a podcast for quite some time. With more resources now in place, and a few more friends helping with its production, it's just around the corner.
We plan to bring you more goodness than could even be delivered in a juicy bacon sam'ich served by a oil-wrestling tandem of Scarlett Johansson flooping around Kate Beckinsale. And don't you dare rip on that good vibe, oMissPixyo.
The plan is in addition to our normal talks about life and entertainment, with the purely scientific logic we could only explain, to have regular segments featuring you guys as well.
If you have a video camera, and idea for a segment, let us know (on forums or on chat). We have all the resources you want for video and audio. Even if you just have a microphone, but some funniness, let us know as well. We'll hook you up.
Videos and PicturesThe
video section is progressing through its Beta stage, and it's looking a bit more cool every day.
The videos you see listed toward the right are the ones you guys have voted to be most popular. Comments are now up and running on the videos, which some of the time, are a lot funnier than the video itself.
If you want to upload and share content, you'll find the link to do so under the video section's right hand column.
We also have an
image section, where you are free to upload and store pictures, all subject to rating and comments. I think the most shocking picture uploaded so far is this one of
College Hilary Clinton.
Chat InterfaceRight now, we have chat available through our
IRC channel on Abjects. There are usually a good 20-25 people on, talking about important issues like genital warts and bacon, and the occasional debate does break out.
With that said, I've considered making the chat a bit more interactive and functional to a point to where you can also easily access videos, upload content, watch videos in real time with everyone in addition to a few other things.
The chat would be built around a program,
Meebo, as a core, but before I do anything I wanted to get a feel and feedback from you guys.
So try it out (this isn't close to what finished chat would look like) to see how you like the ability of sharing and watching videos in chat and such. This isn't a screenshot, by the way. Enter your nick and talk. If you have a link from YouTube, or Flickr, enter it in chat box and it will automatically play the video.
The ButtonsThis is more geared toward folks who have their own quality websites. Under the
Our Buttons section, you'll now see a button that you can place on your site. With it, readers can sign up to ShoutWire and submit 1 of your quality articles, automatically. It's a cool feature to help spread the good name of ShoutWire as well as easily share cool news.
You can see the test for the button in action after each article on
ShoutWire's Blog.
Easy NavigationAt the top of each main page, you'll now see you can FINALLY browse the site by category. This will hopefully make it easier for you to see new articles by your sections of interest. In addition to viewing each category section, you can also now view newest, most viewed, most shouted, and commented by category. If there is a category you never want to see again, simply go to "My Profile" and X out the category you don't want. It's reversible, so you can set it back.
There have been requests for a general and updated FAQ for the site, and when I have a chance I'll continue to draft one up in the site's blog.
Weekly NewsletterWith so much cool content, user blog entries, images and videos, we figured it may be time again to consider a weekly newsletter.
It will have its beginning in editorialized format, and as a set standard is made for it, it may be expanded into an E-zine like feature for you, which we'll send out via email. Should be cool stuff.
So I think that's it for most of the updates I wanted to cover. If I think of more, it'll be tacked on. Give feedback, it's appreciated.
Also, if you're not a member of forums,
please sign up here. Thanks guys.
