This article won't highlight the plastic, capitalist Easter that you and I have been trained to know, nor will it showcase a giant rabbit or any other silly symbol of Easter. What this editorial will do is ponder what it would be like if Jesus Christ returned to Earth for Easter.

I fully remain Unknowledgeable of your definition of common sense. From my own percpective, common sense has nothing to do with western education, but can be derived from a natural comprehension of the world. Now for you to say people in "third world countries" lack common sense could mean that you are saying that such people are basically retarded. However, my point is; in all your Western Education, and knowledge, the United States Specifically is the only nation to have used an atomic bomb, Hitler in his "genius" killed six million people, even right now it seems like Goerge Bush needs to take a course in his application of common sense. Overtly, these people mention above only contitute a little portion of the glamour of common sense, and enlightenment of Western education. conclusively, before you reiterate that "a people" need to be taught common sense, maybe you better start from your own end.

Note: Other than the above mention of common sense, i think you wrote a good article.

"'There is NO firm evidence to substantiate the existance of any diety."

There is NO firm evidence to prove that there is no god.

There is tons of history of religion, which could be considered evidence. You have no evidence to prove that the evidence is false. Don't forget that history was basically founded on religion.

Someone who tries to prove their religion or spirtuality must be in doubt on some level. Religion and spirtuality are based on faith, which has nothing to do with facts or proof.

On the other hand, science deals with facts and evidence. Imagine a scientist saying 'I have no proof about this, but I have all my faith in it.' Some may argue some scientists do this, but under closer inspection, their theories and hypothesis are based on an observation or other kind of evidence.

This isn't a knock on science or religion/spirtuality, but showing how they work on different levels.

By the way, was this thread move up to the top, or reposted? It seems to have disappeared, and then reappeared.

common sense is the measurement of knowledge and your ability to apply that knowledge in a ways that your culture sees as important or necessary. common sense to tribes in remote islands may be that killing people is a part of a daily ritual to appease their god(s). common sense to us is killing is bad. but anyway, if jesus came to the earth for easter, he would bring Mohammad, Allah and Buddah. they would all get high with Buddah's buddah bong and eat all the peeps in the world. Jesus would turn half the ocean into a fine wine to quinch their cotton mouth. Allah and Mohammed would do Muslim terrorist impressions and Jesus would be so high that he, due to the laughter, pisses his robe. then right b4 they leave the earth, they would combine their powers and create this superpower God who kills off all the Scientologist....yes including tom cruise...Katie can live, she beautiful.

there is NO WAY that alexkidd2006's response is shorter than 3000 characters or whatever it is.

Scienott, cool. I just wanted to make sure you're not attending everybody's flock uselessly because in, for instance, the PSAS thread, you pandered to the guy whom set everyone straight on the medical inarguability of the situation. I won't tell you your business I'm sorry; I was just getting the impression that the possibility exists that you're the kind of host who has to make sure everyone is comfortable... even people from Great Britain and third world countries like Australia.
Peace.

Very good read, except one thing I'd like to point out.

Originally, Easter was celebrated by pagan religions as an occasion to recognize fertility.
EndQuote

I'm taking from this that you subscribe to the idea that Easter was stolen from a pagan holiday. In the case of many holidays (christmas included) you would be correct. Christian holidays in the first century were deliberately celebrated on the dates of pagan holidays, to avoid persecution. More or less, if a group of people was found celebrating a christian holiday, they were killed, tortured, defamed, or otherwise harmed. Many christian holidays have uncertain dates because of this, and any knowledge of the original dates was lost to time.

However, with a few holidays, the dates are rather certain. Easter is one of these. Because easter is centered around the passover feast (jewish holiday) and the jews have retained their religions and customs for.. well.. as long as mankind has been writing, then the dates are quite certain. Both the pagan holiday, and the hebrew holiday (passover feast) both predate the written word, or at least, any written record.

Which came first? There is really no way of knowing. But when speaking of easter, I can definately tell you that it didn't evolve out of a pagan holiday. it evolved from a jewish one.

Stay on topic, Scuzzle. Everyone will be more comfortable if you can do that.

This goes for everyone:
If you have nothing to say which relates to the article itself, don't bother.

Very informative post, Dalmp. Thanks for sharing.

If Jesus were here now he'd be thrown in 'camp x-ray' as a terrorist to 'freedom'.
Think about it, he tells people how they should live their lives. American's especially would hate that because they have 'the best way of life'... nothing is allowed to hinder their freedom, oh noes.
Christ also has the ultimate WMD - God. Although chances are after he's captured they won't be able to locate God...

Oh and on the subject of its significance, I thought Easter was recognition of the resurrection. So it's directly Christian anyway, why are people debating this?
